In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to Him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as Savory Salt.

Hello, my friends, it's a new day with new opportunities. Choose you this day whom ye will serve. It's me, Hope, once again back on Savory Salt, and I'm happy to be here.

Are you ready for a Thanksgiving message? I know it's not Thanksgiving yet, but I found the verse in Psalm, and I was like, "You know what? We're going Thanksgiving today." So if you're listening to this at Thanksgiving, you're going to be able to go to Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving plus 10 points. Yay, you're doing awesome! But we're going to do a Thanksgiving message or a gratitude message if we want to rephrase it today.

And I'm so excited! So we're going to start off with our verse. It's not very far from where we left off yesterday, but that's okay, right?

So it's in Psalm 8, and it is verse 9. It's like the end of the psalm. How does that tie into Thanksgiving?

Well, here's how. So I was thinking about it, and I was like, "How great is that name?" Oh man, it's great! You just want to like, "Woohoo, yeah!" And then I was thinking, and I was like, "You know what?

This kind of goes into gratitude: How grateful are we for Him in our lives, for Christ?" He did everything for us. How grateful are we? And so that got me down this like wormhole, I suppose you could call it.

I went into several things about gratitude and gratitude journals. So, for all of you out there who just heard the word "journal" and decided to stop listening, stay with me. It's okay.

I promise you, this is going to be good. So I was thinking about how bad I am personally at journaling. Like, I am really, really bad at journaling.

Like, I can do like a good solid page, but I'm just really bad at remembering to do it. So I feel all of you out there that's like, "I'm a horrible journaler." Yep, I feel you. I am too.

So that got me thinking about how several times we go to devotionals and Young Women or listen to people speak, and they talk about gratitude journals. I'm not going to put a link in here because it's super short, and I'm going to share the important part. If you want to go find it, go for it, though.

It's November of 2006, and it is by Danelle Nielson, something like that. And so, here's the quote from that. She says, "By focusing on things I'm grateful for, it makes me realize how blessed I am.

It also makes my problems seem like not such a big deal. Plus, my gratitude journals are something my children and grandchildren can read someday, and they will learn a lot about me from those short, simple entries. I'm grateful for that, and being grateful makes me happy." How awesome is that?

Like, there it is right there. We don't need to talk about anything else. Gratitude is awesome!

I like how she says it makes my problems seem like not such a big deal, because it does. When you think about all the good things happening in your life, it's like, well, the bad things aren't as bad anymore because there are things every single day that you can focus on that are good. And so the next quote I have here is from a General Conference talk by Elder Lloyd P.

George of the Seventy, "Are We Grateful?", and it's from April of 1994. And I know that it's a really long time ago for me, at least, but I love this talk. I was reading it, and I'm like, "This is perfect." So he says this: "This great principle of gratitude made a daily part of our lives and our prayers can lift and bless us as individuals, as members of the Church, and as parents and families." Once again, shout out to Elder Lloyd!

Like, that's awesome! Whoop! Let's do this!

Let's go get those gratitude journals! And I have a challenge for you as well. Start your gratitude journal.

It doesn't matter how old you are or how young you are. We hope you are too.
