In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to Him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as Savory Salt.

Hello, my friends. It's a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom you will serve.

What does bearing testimony actually mean to you when you hear that phrase? I know for many people they think specifically of going up the church aisles and walking up in front of the microphone and taking an opportunity to bear their witness of Jesus Christ and His gospel. But I think our testimonies can be borne in so many incredible ways, and that's what I wanted to dive into in this episode of Savory Salt.

As we are inside our readings of 2 Kings chapters 2 through 7, we get to the story of Naaman, this Syrian captain of the guard, right? He, captain of the host, I guess it is. He's a leader.

He's a good man, it seems like, here. And he's dealing with leprosy, some sort of skin disease. And inside of this story, we've got a couple of cool lessons today.

I want to share one. Tomorrow, I'm going to share another one specific to Naaman's story. But this one today is what triggered Naaman to go forward.

And it caught my eye this time because it didn't register. When you typically tell the story of Naaman, you're just like, he has leprosy. He goes to the prophet.

He's frustrated at the instructions, right? Like that's kind of the story that you get. But if we look here in 2 Kings 5, the trigger for this — like the first domino that falls — is actually in verse 3.

That's what I want to take a look at here. Naaman knows that he's dealing with this. His family and friends are worried about this.

And then we have this maid in verse 2 that's working with Naaman's wife. She's the maid for Naaman's wife. Verse 3 says, 'And she said unto her mistress, "Would God my lord were with the prophet that is in Samaria; for he would recover him of his leprosy."' Now this sounds like just kind of a small moment in a little conversation between a maid and her mistress, but this is a testimony.

This is the maid bearing testimony that there is a prophet in a land that could heal him. My friends, sometimes the greatest testimonies we can bear are short and simple. They're testimonies of faith that we get here like this maid.

She has full confidence that the Lord through His prophet could heal Naaman. And she's basically kind of just bearing this testimony in like a little conversation with Naaman's wife. But Naaman's wife takes that information, passes it along.

The other dominoes now fall after them. My friends, I hope you will understand and take the opportunity — regularly, daily, hourly, as often as you are inspired to do so — to bear short, simple testimonies of the reality of the gospel of Jesus Christ as you know it. If you don't feel like you can bear testimony on all of the doctrinal aspects of the gospel of Jesus Christ, that's okay.

Bear testimony of the areas in which you received a witness. Share it with your friends and family. You have no idea who may be blessed because of your short and simple testimony that you bear to them.

I love the beginning of this story here with Naaman because it starts with a maid bearing simple testimony of the witness that she has of a prophet of God. May we all have the opportunity and the courage to share those small testimonies that could possibly change lives. That's all for today, my friends.

You and I have come here for such a time as this. Step forward in faith and let's be saved. We will be here tomorrow and we hope you are too.
