In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to Him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as Savory Salt.
Hello, my friends. It's a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom you will serve.
Today, a thought about winning the daily battles, the little battles, the ones that we have to face hour after hour, day by day, versus the big battles and wars in our lives. Perhaps I'm getting ahead of myself here, even off of the introduction. We're going to continue inside of Naaman's story as we're doing our readings this week with 2 Kings chapters 2 through 7.
Inside of Naaman's story, this one's more well-known inside of the Old Testament stories. If you haven't read it, make sure that you're reading inside of this for sure. But we see that Naaman does go to the Prophet and he does get direction, and then he's frustrated at the counsel he gets.
I think there have been times in my life where I've gone to just mentors or perhaps even spiritual leaders and I've sought some direction, and the counsel they gave was perhaps underwhelming to me, and I thought I was expecting more. I think that's where Naaman is inside of his story here. And then we have his servants.
Again, we've got the maid yesterday. Here we have the servants of Naaman. These must have been solid servants, great people to be around.
Our verse for today is in 2 Kings 5, verse 13. It says this in response to his frustration and anger about having to wash in the River Jordan. The Bible says, "And his servants came near, and spake unto him, and said, My father, if the prophet had bid thee do some great thing, wouldst thou not have done it?
How much rather then, when he said to thee, Wash, and be clean." My friends, are you and I waiting for the epic, major announcements from our prophets? Are you waiting for the news to, like, I don't know, pack up the wagons and head off across the country to some new land like the pioneers did? Is that what you're waiting for to follow the prophet and his apostles?
Or perhaps we already had the counsel, and much of that counsel is, "Hey, remember the daily things it takes to keep your testimony"? I can remember listening for the first time the counsel from President Nelson to repent daily. Such a small piece of counsel it seems, and yet it's made such a vital change in my life.
I try to reflect, I try to think into the things that I've done. How can I turn my heart more to the Lord on a daily basis? You would do the big commandments, so why not take an opportunity to do the small and seemingly mundane commandments as well?
Naaman's life was changed for it. I hope that your life and my life can change for it as well. I know that it's the small daily actions that take us stronger and stronger into our paths and commitments with our Savior Jesus Christ.
That is all for today, my friends. You and I have come here for such a time as this. Step forward in faith, and let's be savory salt. We will be here tomorrow, and we hope you are too.
