Allen Roberds reflects on 2 Kings 4, highlighting Elisha's miracles, particularly the feeding of 100 men described in 2 Kings 4:43. This episode draws parallels between Elisha's divine provision and the ministry of Jesus Christ, emphasizing God's promise to feed His people if they are spiritually present and ready to receive His miracles.

Key Points

  • Elisha's miracles in 2 Kings 4, including multiplying oil and bread, serve as powerful foreshadowings of Jesus Christ's ministry and divine provision.
  • The episode specifically focuses on 2 Kings 4:43, detailing how Elisha miraculously multiplied twenty loaves of barley bread to feed 100 men with food to spare.
  • Prophets are presented as types of Christ, demonstrating God's power and care for His people, offering a glimpse into what Christ would do.
  • Allen Roberds encourages listeners to reflect on how they can be 'in the right places at the right times'—both physically and mentally—to be receptive to the Lord's guaranteed miracles of provision.
  • The narrative reminds us that God extends miracles even to unnamed individuals in the scriptures who are receptive to His blessings, reinforcing His promise that 'they shall eat'.

The Lord guarantees and promises that his followers absolutely shall eat, and I believe that.

In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to Him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as Savory Salt.

Hello, my friends. It's a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom you will serve.

Listen closely to this description and see who it sounds like. He multiplies a widow's oil. He promises a son to a woman.

He raises a child to life. Bread and grain are multiplied for the people to eat. Isn't it amazing that that's the heading of chapter 4 of 2 Kings, talking about Elisha and the service that he's doing.

I know yesterday I talked about kind of the shift from Old Testament to New Testament miracles of sorts just in my own mind. But I love 2 Kings chapter 4 because of the example that Elisha sets for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and how similar it is. It reminds me of the role that prophets play in our lives in being those types of Christ.

Someone that we can look forward to to see the things that they would do, as those things are the things that Christ would do. Now as we get into our verse for today, we're going to get to the tail end of the miracles that Elisha performed in 2 Kings 4 because I think there's a message there for us as well. 2 Kings chapter 4 verse 43 right near the very end of the chapter is going to be our verse for today. We're going to see a miracle happen as Elisha takes food that's been brought to him and presents it to about a hundred or so people that are there.

Verse 43 says this, and let's talk about it. It says, The Lord said to him, and his servants said, What, should I set this before a hundred men? He said again, Give the people that they may eat.

For thus saith the Lord, They shall eat, and shall leave thereof. Now, my friends, this is not the only time that the Lord is going to perform a miracle to feed those that are there. And I think the kind of the curveball approach I wanted to take with this one is it sure seems to me, scripturally speaking, that the Lord makes sure that his people shall eat so long as they're in the right place at the right time.

So, as I hold that perspective, then the question that I've got for you and for me today on Savory Salt is: how can we make sure that we are doing our best to be in the right places at the right times? Where are those right places? Well, it seems that the miracles follow our Savior Jesus Christ as well as his prophets.

We're not talking necessarily physically here, friends. Yes, I am—I'm saying physical locations, but I'm also just being mentally. Are we mentally in the places and the spaces for the Lord to provide the miracle to us?

Are we present? Are we there? And are we ready for the miracle to come into our lives?

My friends, I'm grateful to see the experiences that others had in the scriptures here. We don't have any of these people named. They are unnamed people in the scriptures and yet every bit the receiver of a miracle from the Lord.

Sometimes I think to myself, I'm not that named person in the scriptures. I'm not Captain Moroni, I'm not Helaman, I'm not Elijah, but I absolutely want to be one of those unnamed people that are perhaps just in the right place at the right time, receiving the miracles from the Lord as he chooses to feed. The Lord guarantees and promises that his followers absolutely shall eat, and I believe that.

That is all for today, my friends. You and I have come here for such a time as this. Step forward in faith and let's be Savory Salt. We will be here tomorrow, and we hope you are too.
