Show Notes

In this Savory Salt episode, Kira reflects on Numbers 14:23, exploring the Israelites' doubt regarding the Promised Land and its consequences. She discusses how a lack of faith can prevent us from receiving divine blessings and encourages listeners to "just go for it" when faced with spiritual promptings, emphasizing the need to actively work for God's promises.

Key Points

  • The episode delves into Numbers 14:23, highlighting how the Israelites' disbelief about entering the Promised Land led to them not seeing it.
  • Kira suggests that the inability to receive God's promised blessings often stems from our own lack of faith and readiness, rather than solely divine punishment.
  • Listeners are encouraged to develop sufficient faith to actively pursue and work for the Lord's promises, overcoming fear and doubt in their spiritual journey.
  • Acting on divine promptings, even small ones, builds testimony and allows individuals to experience the Lord's hand in everything they do.

I just want to invite you to think about the promptings that you're receiving... to actually have the faith enough to just do it. The Lord can't give it to you. You have to go after it.

In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as Savory Salt.

Hello my friends, it's a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom ye will serve. Welcome back and my name is Kira.

I'm back on the podcast. I'm super excited to be here and share my thoughts with you guys this week as we continue with the story of the Israelites with Moses and the new stories that we're getting in Numbers. So this week the verse that I wanted to focus on is Numbers chapter 14 verse 23.

This is what it says. Surely they shall not see the land which I swear unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it. I thought this verse was really interesting because we learn in this story that there are some spies and they're out to see what the Promised Land looks like and kind of what they're up against to actually be able to obtain the Promised Land.

And the majority of the people come back, these spies, and they really are very pessimistic about it. They do not have very idealistic ideas about this Promised Land. And they are very doubtful that this land is ever actually going to be theirs in the first place.

And so we get this interesting verse where the Lord is saying, "Look, because you're doubting, you're not actually ever going to be able to see the Promised Land." And I feel like a lot of people look at this verse and this kind of situation as punishment from the Lord because they didn't have enough faith to go in and see the Promised Land. So the Lord just blocked them out from it. But as I was reading it this week, I actually had a little bit of a different take on it.

We do know that the Lord, obviously, he is a just God. And obviously, if we do something doubting, there are punishments for that. But I think the punishment honestly comes more from ourselves.

I think when we don't have enough faith to move on, we don't have enough faith to move on. I love Elder Calce's message that he also had in the Come Follow Me section where he talked about the people didn't have enough faith to go forward and so they didn't get the result. The Lord can't give us something that we're not ready for and that we don't have the faith enough to receive.

It's not something that he can do. He can give you something that you don't want. And so these people don't want the Promised Land.

The only people that wanted it were the two spies that came back and had positive things to say about it. They were hyping up the group telling them that they could do this, that they could really obtain this Promised Land. And so I think it's important to remember when we are making.

The Lord is not just going to give us this Promised Land. He's promised you so much and He can't just give it to you. That wouldn't be just.

We have to go out and we have to work for it. We have to have the faith sufficient enough to say, I can do this and I know that the Lord can do this and I know that with Him I can do anything. I'm currently in the decade of decisions if you want to call it right now and there's so many times when I have a prompting to do something or to maybe change a class or change what I'm studying or you know whatever it may be change a job and there's a lot of fear in that.

I can't blame these Israelites for not wanting to go up against these giants when they feel like grasshoppers. It's not easy to take what the Lord has to offer and have to work for it. But I know that on the other side, we are going to be so grateful for the opportunity that he gave us to actually work for it.

I guarantee that the two spies were able to see and enjoy the Promised Land more than the people who had to wait for it because they knew that they accomplished it. They came out on the other side. They were victorious and their testimonies grew because they were able to see the Lord's hand in everything that they did.

So I just want to invite you to think about the promptings that you're receiving. All of us receive promptings all the time and it may not be a big change, maybe just something small, but to actually have the faith enough to just do it. The Lord can't give it to you.

You have to go after it. So I would invite you to really think about those promptings that you're receiving and ask the Lord how instead of why or avoiding it in the first place. That's all for today my friends.

You and I have come here for such a time as this. Step forward in faith and let's be Savory Salt. We will be here tomorrow. We hope you
