In Matthew 5.13, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth, a bold reminder that our lives are meant to carry his flavor, his truth, and his love to the world. Join me each day to explore one verse of scripture and one thought, striving to stay full of savor and truly live as savory salt. Hello my friends, it's great to have you with me.

Today let's be anxiously engaged in a good cause and bring to pass much righteousness. We are continuing to read the vision this week inside of Doctrine and Covenants section 76 as well as Alma chapters 25 through 28. We're going to continue on this idea we started yesterday about allowing the spirit and by the spirit finding out the secrets of the The Will of the Lord.

And I think we get another piece here that is fascinating. It really, to me, is one of the keys that allowed Doctrine and Covenants 76 to be revealed to Joseph and Sidney Rigdon. And so let's take a look at our verse for today in Doctrine and Covenants section 76, verse 19.

Joseph and Sidney have just been working on the Bible and inside of it they read John 5 They had kind of an interesting moment They both kind of marveled at it So when you reading your scriptures do you ever pause on those verses and go wow that kind of a cool verse Now when I do that I tend to be like that kind of a cool verse Let see what else there is And I move on But I think today we going to have a little insight on wow that a cool verse Hold on I think that what it going to say today Verse 19 says, And while we meditated upon these things, the Lord touched the eyes of our understandings, and they were opened, and the glory of the Lord shone round about. Now I love this because Joseph and Sidney don't just marvel and enjoy the scriptures that they're reading. They meditate upon them.

My friends, how much do you and I take to meditate upon the things we're reading? I might even ask you directly, do you use savory salt as your scripture study for the day or do you continue to do the readings on your own? I certainly have not designed savory salt to be your personal scripture study for the day.

I hope you're doing your readings outside of it. I hope you're writing in your journal about it. I hope you're recording your own thoughts about it.

I hope you having your own conversations in your family about the things that you reading Savory Salt is certainly here to be an assistant in that but it is not meant to replace the scriptures in any way shape or form And I love that Sidney and Joseph saw a verse that they marveled on and they meditated upon these things. In fact, if you look inside of our Come Follow Me manual, there's some cool information inside of there with a couple of the early leaders of the church, a couple of different opinions, A couple of different people recorded learning about Doctrine and Covenants 76. And Brigham Youngs is an interesting one.

He says this about 76. He says, my traditions were such that when the vision came first to me, it was directly contrary and opposed to my former education. I said, wait a little.

I did not reject it, but I could not understand it. He explained he had to think and pray, to read and think until I knew and fully understood it for myself. That my friends is a wonderful pattern from Brigham Young.

Did you catch what he said there? At first it's in direct opposition. It's directly contrary to his own beliefs.

My friends if you heard something from current prophet or apostles that makes you pause and go wait a second do you immediately reject it or do you follow the path that Brigham Young has followed here He says wait a little don reject it couldn understand it That an interesting view there And then I love how he says I had to think and pray to read and think until I knew and fully understood it for myself My friends, I think Doctrine and Covenants 76 gives us the very ingredients we need to understand something as magnificent as section 76. I hope that you and I take an opportunity not just to read through these words, but to meditate upon them, to marvel in the Spirit about them, and to seek to understand them in a way that only the Spirit can teach us. That's all for today my friends.

Lift up your hearts and rejoice. Cleave into the covenants you have made and together we will be savory salt.
