In this Savory Salt episode, Allen Roberds reflects on Doctrine and Covenants 27:2, exploring the profound meaning of the sacrament as a sacred opportunity to remember Jesus Christ's infinite sacrifice and Atonement. He emphasizes how fixing an "eye single to the Lord's glory" through the Atonement can help lighten burdens, overcome sin, and bring lasting joy.

Key Points

  • The sacrament serves as a powerful reminder to remember Jesus Christ's sacrifice and to direct our "eye single to the Lord's glory."
  • Doctrine and Covenants 27:2 highlights Jesus Christ's promise of His presence, spiritual comfort, and angelic support to those who remember Him.
  • Increasing our understanding of the Atonement of Jesus Christ is crucial for overcoming personal sins, spiritual struggles, and heavy burdens.
  • Making and diligently keeping covenants with Jesus Christ can lighten our afflictions, heal wounded souls, and transform painful life moments into joy.

What does an eye single to the Lord's glory look like in your life? I hope you find it, whether through this direct instruction from a living prophet, or you find it through your own inspiration of the Holy Spirit in your life. May you and I both have an eye single to the Lord's glory as we focus on the Atonement of Jesus Christ week after week in our lives.

In Matthew 5:13, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth, a bold reminder that our lives are meant to carry his flavor, his truth, and his love to the world. Join me each day to explore one verse of scripture and one thought, striving to stay full of savor and truly live as savory salt. Hello, my friends.

Great to have you with me. Today, let's be anxiously engaged in a good cause and bring to pass much righteousness. Welcome to a new week and some amazing scriptures ahead of us.

I know I kind of say that often, but man, I love diving into these hand in hand. It seems like so many times they just interweave with each other. This week, we're going to be reading actually quite a short section in Doctrine and Covenants with sections 27 and 28.

Not a lot of reading there, but we're going to get into some cool topics as we look inside of there. And then we're going to be reading from 2 Nephi chapters 28–32. These are going to be some more of Nephi's awesome testimonies of Jesus Christ.

And so I'm excited to combine the two of those together as we look into this week. Our verse for today comes inside of Doctrine and Covenants section 27. An interesting section here.

This is really the section where Joseph Smith is told that wine is no longer a requisite for the sacrament. And there's some reading that you can do inside of that. We're not going to get into that aspect of it.

Instead, we're going to focus first in Doctrine and Covenants section 27 on just the meaning behind the sacrament itself, and that comes inside of 27 verse 2. It says this, a direction from the Lord. Now this one's a really cool reminder for us when it comes to the sacrament.

Why do we take the sacrament so often? Well, it's an opportunity for us to bring an eye single to the glory of the Lord and to remember his sacrifice. And so maybe you remember that episode we talked about that, but he got another promise inside of here not just from him as a prophet but a promise from Jesus Christ himself that I think feeds into this eye single to the Lord's glory.

And he says this inside of his talk. Please listen to this promise of Jesus Christ to you: "I will be on your right hand and on your left, and my spirit shall be in your hearts and mine angels round about you to bear you up. There is no limit to the Savior's capacity to help you.

His incomprehensible suffering in Gethsemane and on Calvary was for you. His infinite Atonement is for you. I urge you to devote time each week for the rest of your life to increase your understanding of the Atonement of Jesus Christ.

My heart aches for those who are mired in sin and don't know how to get out. I weep for those who struggle spiritually or who carry heavy burdens alone because they do not understand what Jesus Christ did for them. Jesus Christ took upon himself your sins, your pains, your heartaches, and your infirmities.

You do not have to bear them alone. He will forgive you as you repent. He will bless you with what you need.

He will heal your wounded soul. As you yoke yourself to Him, your burdens will feel lighter. If you will make and keep covenants to follow Jesus Christ, you will find that the painful moments of your life are temporary.

Your afflictions will be swallowed up in the joy of Christ." My friends, that is a promise from a living prophet of God.

That's all for today, my friends. Lift up your hearts and rejoice.

Cleave into the covenants you have made, and together we will be savory salt. Thank you for listening to the Savory Salt podcast. I'm your host, Allen Roberds.

I'll see you next time. God bless.
