In Matthew 5:13, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth, a bold reminder that our lives are meant to carry his flavor, his truth, and his love to the world. Join me each day to explore one verse of scripture and one thought, striving to stay full of savor and truly live as savory salt. Hello, my friends, great to have you with me.
Today let's be anxiously engaged in a good cause and bring to pass much righteousness. Oh my, has this week been a difficult week for selecting our verses each day. We're wrapping up this week by reading Doctrine and Covenants sections 23 to 26 and 2 Nephi chapters 24 to 27.
Yesterday I referenced the power that Nephi took on. The Lord testifies of Jesus Christ in 2 Nephi chapters 25 and 26. And I got to admit, as we came into 2 Nephi chapter 27 to wrap up the week, I know that my lens of my upbringing has affected the way that I read scriptures.
I totally understand that. And yet I can't help but read 2 Nephi chapter 27, and even its sister chapter or whatever you want to call it in Isaiah chapter 29, I can read it without seeing so clearly the Lord testifying of the coming forth of the Book of Mormon in the latter days. Our verse for today is going to feed into that a little bit, and then a little bit of a thought after that.
We're going to be reading today, 2 Nephi chapter 27 verse 12. And it says this, "Wherefore, at that day, when the book shall be delivered unto the man of whom I have spoken, the book shall be hid from the eyes of the world, that the eyes of none shall behold it, save it be that three witnesses shall behold it by the power of God, besides him to whom the book shall be delivered. And they shall testify to the truth of the book and the things therein." Now I read that one and of course immediately go to, you know, the three witnesses at the front of the Book of Mormon, their experiences that we've been reading about in the Doctrine and Covenants.
And again, I can't help but see that through the lens of how I've been raised and seen. But you know it took a step further this week, as a couple of my daughters and I have actually, in alignment with Doctrine and Covenants and the Book of Mormon, we actually been taking time reading the Saints books as well. And we in the first book of Saints.
And I got to admit, I love the stories as the new Quorum of the Twelve Apostles go forward and preach. And they're just staying pretty close to the United States. Some of them go up into Canada and then initially they jump over to the UK.
Something I love to read about in the Saints stories are those that were so knowledgeable of the Bible and those that were so guarded in their own religious thought that when these members, these missionaries, these apostles came to preach of the Book of Mormon and said, "Look, I know you know the Bible. I want to tell you things that are in alignment with Bible principles." And these people not only heard the messages, but they knew they were true. My friends, those that truly know the scriptures, those that really know the Bible, aren't actually the ones that are hesitant to hear the messages of the Book of Mormon because they see inside of biblical principles the truths that the Book of Mormon teaches.
I love to read these prophecies from Nephi, from Isaiah, because for me these stories and these prophecies are in alignment with biblical principles. And if you know what the Bible is talking about, you understand that the Book of Mormon becomes another testament of Jesus Christ. It's not disregarding, it's not pushing aside, it's adding to, and it's adding a witness of a living Jesus Christ who loves us, who went through the Atonement, suffered for us, lives again, and lives today, and leads and guides his church.
And I love that the Saints early on heard the apostles testify and believed. And that is something I want to hold in my own life. That I hear those that have been called of God testify and preach and that I see Jesus Christ in it.
That's all for today, my friends. Lift up your hearts and rejoice. Cleave unto the covenants you have made and together we will be savory salt.
