In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life, and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.
Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me, and know that I'm cheering for your every success. Do you want an anchor to your soul?
Welcome to Day 351 on our 365-day journey through the Book of Mormon together. Today, you're going to be reading Ether chapter 12, verses 1 through 18. And I am so grateful that we've got a few days here.
I'm going to get into some of the things here inside of Ether chapter 12 because it is so good. For those of you that want to build your faith, or those of you that are struggling with your faith, or those of you that just want an extra oomph to get through the tail end of this 365-day journey, jump into Ether chapter 12 with me. You're going to love it.
Our verse for today comes on the front end of Ether chapter 12 as we have Moroni take the reins here a little bit and say, "Ether's a prophet." He literally can't be stopped because the Spirit of the Lord is with him. And he starts preaching. But before we get to his preaching, I've got a few things to say about faith.
That's at least my interpretation of what happens on the front end of Ether chapter 12. Our verse comes in Ether chapter 12, verse 4. It says, And you say, "Well, faith and hope in what?" Faith and hope in God.
Believing in God is the basis of everything that we do inside the gospel. It provides the faith and the hope for us to continue our lives and believe that there is a better day coming. And that could even be a better moment coming.
This has me thinking about so many times in my life when I have turned to Heavenly Father because I've literally had nowhere else. There was a time in my life in which I had a very severe back injury. The pain that it put me in was so brutal that I could not even—medication wouldn't even touch it.
I could not move without excruciating pain. And I didn't know what else to do. And I would spend my time praying to Heavenly Father.
I got the inspiration to pick chapters in the Book of Mormon and to play them on my phone, play them out loud—just the narration of them. And I started putting them on loop, and it's interesting how it worked, but I found solace inside of those chapters, and Heavenly Father ultimately took my pain away and gave me rest as I sat, trying to just bear through the pain I was experiencing. My faith and hope in God compels me to believe that tomorrow will be better than today.
My faith and hope in God compels me to believe that my good works today can play a part in bettering that world tomorrow. I hope you and I can both increase our faith in the Lord. I hope that you and I together can find the faith and hope that creates an anchor to our souls that will make us sure and steadfast, always abounding in good works, and ultimately being led to glorify God.
That's all for today, my friends. Remember that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass. Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be savory salt. I'll be here tomorrow, and I hope you are too.
