In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.
Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from, thank you for joining me and know that I'm cheering for your every success. I've done this before on Savory Salt. It's about time we do it again.
My friends, find a missionary, find a companionship, find a group of missionaries, shake their hands, look them in the eyes, tell them you are grateful for them and their service. The missionaries around the world today are absolutely. All of these are the holy angels sent from our Heavenly Father.
Welcome to day 162 out of our 365 day journey through the Book of Mormon. Today you're going to read Alma chapter 9, verses 17 through 29. Alma is absolutely in missionary mode still.
He is talking over and over and over again in a lot of different ways that if you keep the commandments you get blessed and if you don't, you lose all those blessings. And then we get to a verse today that I will fully admit right up front comes from my current map of the world. It's Alma chapter 9, verse 25: "And now for this cause, that ye may not be destroyed, the Lord has sent his angel to visit many of his people, declaring unto them that they must go forth and cry mightily unto this people, saying: Repent ye, for the kingdom of heaven is nigh at hand." Who's the angel sent forth to visit the people and declare unto them to repent, for the kingdom of heaven is nigh?
Sure, I think that in Alma chapter 9, here, Alma's talking about a visitation from a specific angel calling him and others to go and do the work and preach. But I think that role of angel could also be put in today's sense of the missionary work around the world. I have a daughter that at this stage is days away from beginning her missionary service.
I have a niece, I have nephews, I have, I've got family members, I've got my daughter's friends, and they're all over the world. And they are angels. They're angels serving the people that they've been called to serve, which in turn, as we've learned in the Book of Mormon, also means, they're serving our Father in heaven.
What's their primary purpose? To invite others to come unto Christ through faith, repentance, and baptism. My friends, find the missionaries around you.
Thank them for their service. Invite them into your homes. Have them share a message.
The spirit that they bring is strong. It's powerful. Their eyes are single to their work.
They're doing their. We recently had some missionaries drop by for us and share just an evening message. My daughters and I loved it.
We loved having them in the house. It lifted our house not literally but spiritually and emotionally. The Lord sends his angels among the people to preach repentance.
Love your missionaries. I'd say hug them, but I know that that's probably not allowed in like most of the missions around the world. So give them long distance hugs.
Give them a handshake. Invite them in. Treat them with respect and honor, for they truly are angels on the earth today.
That's all for today, my friends. Remember that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass. Like young men and women going around the world, learning languages and preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Keep it small, keep it simple and always seek to be savory salt. I'll be here tomorrow and I hope you are too.
