In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.
Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me and know that I'm cheering for your every success. Are you ready for a little bit of change of pace?
We head out of the King Benjamin days. He passes on his kingship to his son, Mosiah. We now enter into the days of King Mosiah.
And then all of a sudden we start telling stories about finding all sorts of people in the wilderness and stuff. Welcome to day 114 on our 365-day path through the Book of Mormon together. Today you're going to read Mosiah chapter 7, verses 1 through 15, and we're going to find all sorts of new people to talk about inside of these chapters coming forward.
Let's dive into the verse today and see what we can learn from what we read. Today you're going to read Mosiah chapter 7, verse 15, the tail end of our reading today. And it says, "It is better that we be slaves to the Nephites than to pay tribute to the king of the Lamanites." Now this is like a shift from King Benjamin.
We're like, what? What is this story going on? I love this part of the story because we have this group of people that separated.
They went to go to a different land, the land of Nephi, and then they didn't find them and they were gone. And they were gone for about three generations when many people, the king of Mosiah's time. This is the moment with Limhi, talking to his people and saying, "Ammon and his brethren came from Zarahemla and they are here to help." And I love that because what I see here is a desire.
Ammon and his brethren are coming out. They're wandering in the wilderness. They don't know which direction they're going.
And then they come across the people of Limhi. And yes, they're arrested up front and there's some misunderstandings that go on here. But then what we find is Limhi and his people are found.
And the thing I love about this the most is they wanted to be found. They just didn't know where to go. If you're not seeing the connection to missionary work here, I want to help make that connection for you.
And maybe it's just because I'm getting ready to send my oldest daughter on her mission. And so we got all sorts of missionary stuff happening in our world and all sorts of missionary conversations happening. But look at this connection here and look at how beautiful the lens is when we look and go: Ammon and his brethren are out searching.
They're doing the best they can through the miraculous events that the Lord can put in place. Ammon finds Limhi. Limhi and his people are burdened.
They're dealing with issues. And here in verse 15, you see this beginning of a light at the end of their tunnel. They see Ammon and they go, "Wow!
They're here to help!" just like the missionaries are doing around the world. They're going out. I have experiences that they can say, "I was looking for something and I found it." I love that.
And I'm so excited to get to know Limhi and his people more as we get rolling forward here inside this story. But that's all for today, my friends. Remember that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass.
Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be savory salt. I'll be here tomorrow and I hope you are too.
