In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.
Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me and know that I'm cheering for your every success. Welcome to day 57, and congratulations to you is in order.
We have now successfully together on our 365-day journey of reading the Book of Mormon reached 15% of the Book of Mormon. Who knew that 2 Nephi 9 would take us to such a great spot? But congratulations on your journey through the Book of Mormon as you have now completed 15% of the book.
And we dive in today into our reading assignment for the day: 2 Nephi 10, verses 1. It is the majority of that chapter, but it is doable very well. We're going to dive into our verse today.
It's going to be verse 2. This is still Jacob talking here, and he's kind of synthesizing a little bit of the back end of his preaching that he's had. And he says something here that I think kind of struck me in the heartstrings a little bit, and I wanted to share that thought with you today.
Verse 2 says: "They may come to that which will give them the true knowledge of their Redeemer." You know, I haven't had any personal experiences as a parent of my children deciding not to accept the gospel of Jesus Christ to this stage in my life. But I've certainly seen it with family and friends, and the experiences that those parents go through are definitely difficult experiences. Everyone has agency in this life, and as such, everyone is free to choose.
I think it's interesting here that Jacob adds this piece because he saw, as Nephi did, the loss of many lives. Those that chose not to accept Jesus Christ. And I'm not sure that I fully understand everything that's going to happen with this understanding and knowledge that Jacob's referencing here.
But I want to read the tail end of it again, just to kind of capture what he says here. He says: "God will be merciful unto many, and our children shall be restored, that they may come to that which will give them the true knowledge of their Redeemer." I don't know what that is necessarily, but they're going to come to that which will give them the true knowledge. They're going to gain a witness of it.
Stay true to your covenants, live the commandments as best as you can, and then let the Lord do His magnificent work in the lives of those you love who may not have made the same choices that you made in your life. I hope that this gives some parents out there or grandparents or family members something to grab onto to understand that our Savior and Redeemer is aware of all of those that have been, will be, or perhaps are currently experiencing challenges in their lives with their own testimonies in the gospel of Jesus Christ. That's all for today, my friends and my family.
Remember that "by small and simple things are great things brought to pass." Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be savory salt. I'll be here tomorrow. I hope you are too.
