In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me and know that I'm cheering for your every success. Welcome to day 56 and perhaps with a smile on my face, but a tear in my eye, I say welcome to the last of 2 Nephi 9.
I have loved diving into this chapter with you. And today we say goodbye to 2 Nephi 9 in our reading as we wrap up that chapter. Today on your 365 day journey through the Book of Mormon, you're going to read 2 Nephi 9:43-54, which does finish up 2 Nephi 9.
Now let's dive into our verse for today and then let's talk about this one. Are we not enjoying this, and I hope you are too? Let's look at verse 51.
Inside the tail end of Jacob's thoughts, he says this: Perisheth not, neither can be corrupted, and let your soul delight in fatness. You know, I got stuck on that one. I was like, let my soul delight in fatness.
Oh my goodness, can I talk about this one in today's world? We're like, no fat, fat, anti-fat, no fatness. Oh my goodness, fat fears over here and everything.
And I thought, oh, I have to, what does this even mean? And I thought, you know, how many times in the scriptures does fatness show up? So I did a little research there and there's like, I don't know, 19 or 20 references to fatness.
There's a lot in Isaiah talking about your soul delighting in fatness. So it's made me wonder, what does a fat soul look like? Right?
What does it look to be spiritually fat? And I love the idea here. I want the spiritually fat diet in my life.
And it made me kind of reflect a little bit. Who do I know that's spiritually fat, right? Who do I know whose soul is?
We'll be right back. Let's get started. We always had a reference, even while we were building his house, he would always have a reference to a scripture and always ask me about spiritual things.
And he always wanted to just dig deeper. And it was a pivotal time in my life as I was preparing for my mission. And I can still think back on some of the conversations we had where he shared some of that fat diet with me, that spiritually fat diet.
And a second thing that comes to mind that I thought about just recently on the front end of our year here, my family is six of us and I have my wife and four incredible girls. And at the beginning of this year, my wife said, you know, we typically each have a day of the week that we pray for family prayers and stuff like that. And then on the seventh day, we kind of go on rotation. going to take over the conversation around scriptures.
And I love it. I'm watching my family. What?
How do I say it? I'm watching my family get fat spiritually. I love it.
I love listening to my daughters and my wife share their insights to the scriptures as they study them and to share whatever it is that's going through their mind and maybe even share some questions they have. So today, I want to encourage you to embrace the spiritually fat diet. Feast upon that which perisheth not.
That's the Savior Jesus Christ and His words and the covenants that you can make with Him. I know that by doing so, your soul can delight in fatness as well. That's all for today, my friends.
Remember that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass. Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be savory salt. I'll be here tomorrow. I hope you are too.
