Show Notes

Allen Roberds explores 2 Nephi 11:3, focusing on Nephi and Jacob's direct witness of Jesus Christ and the principle that God establishes truth through multiple testimonies. This episode highlights the power of believing in special witnesses of Christ, connecting ancient scripture to modern-day apostles and their powerful declaration, "The Living Christ."

Key Points

  • Nephi affirms that his brother Jacob also saw Jesus Christ, emphasizing God's principle of establishing His word through the testimonies of multiple witnesses.
  • The episode stresses the importance of believing in the testimonies of those who have seen Jesus Christ, even if one has not had a similar direct witness.
  • Allen Roberds connects these ancient scriptural accounts to modern-day witnesses by referencing "The Living Christ" document from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
  • "The Living Christ" serves as a powerful testament from modern apostles and prophets, declaring Jesus Christ as the living Christ and immortal Son of God.

I am so grateful that we have the Book of Mormon, that we have these living scriptures, that we have apostles and prophets today that can stand as witnesses of the Lord Jesus Christ and testify of his existence.

In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.

Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me and know that I'm cheering for your every success. Welcome to day 58 on our 365-day journey through the Book of Mormon.

Today, if you are following along on this reading journey, as you are by this time, you're going to read 2 Nephi 10:19-25. Finish that chapter. And then you're going to also read 2 Nephi 11, all of that chapter.

Don't worry, there's only 8 verses there, so you'll be alright inside of the reading assignment. As much as I wanted to snag one more verse from chapter 10, it's vital that we get one of the verses inside of 2 Nephi 11, and so that's where the verse is going to be today. The reason for that is Nephi, before he dives into the Isaiah chapters that are coming again, he reframes it again for us.

And chapter 11 is vital as you read through it. Listen, see what Nephi loves about Isaiah. He loves proving the truth of Jesus Christ to his people, and that what he chose with the Isaiah chapters is to prove the truth of Jesus Christ.

I love that. And so you're going to have some great verses inside of chapter 11 to connect you and kind of preempt you into the Isaiah chapters. Hopefully it's enough energy for you to make it through the chapters.

I know you can do it. We're going to do this together and we're going to be fine. Today's verse is going to come from chapter 11, 2 Nephi 11:3.

And now we've switched over. Nephi's talking again and he says this in verse 3. And my brother Jacob also has seen him as I have seen him.

Wherefore, I will send their words forth unto my children to prove unto them that my words are true. Wherefore, by the words of three, God hath said, I will establish my word. Nevertheless, God sendeth more witnesses, and he proveth all his words.

I love this because we see not only has Nephi seen Jesus Christ and knows of him and can witness of him, he also says here that Jacob has seen him and can witness of him as well. And then he says there are others that are going to come, right? There's other testimonies of Jesus Christ.

I have a testimony of Jesus Christ without necessarily having the witness of seeing him, but I also believe in the testimonies of those that have and can testify as a special witness of Jesus Christ. The first thing that comes to mind is about almost 25 years ago, I guess it's been somewhere around there, right around the year 2000, the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints drafted a document called "The Living Christ". The Bible is a document that testifies and, to use Nephi's words, proves the truth of Jesus Christ.

I want to read just the last paragraph of that and then I'll make sure that I include a link to it in the podcast episode here so that you can go and read it for yourself. They say this on the final paragraph of "The Living Christ": We bear testimony as his duly ordained apostles that Jesus is the living Christ, the immortal Son of God. He is the great King Emmanuel who stands today on the right hand of His Father.

He is the light, the life, and the hope of the world. His way is the path that leads to happiness in this life and eternal life in the world to come. God be thanked for the matchless gift of His divine Son.

I want to add to that, though I have no idea how to do anything more marvelous than simply say, I believe that to be true with all my heart. I am so grateful that we have the Book of Mormon, that we have these living scriptures, that we have apostles and prophets today that can stand as witnesses of the Lord Jesus Christ and testify of his existence. I hope that as we dive into these Isaiah chapters, you can find the little nuggets that prove the truth of Jesus Christ in your life.

That's all for today, my friends. Remember that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass. Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be savory salt.

I'll be here tomorrow. Hope you are too.
