In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to Him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as Savory Salt.

Hello, my friends. It is a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom you will serve.

I bet if you've made your list of words for the Lord, you haven't had buckler on the list. What does that even mean? Let's dive into our verse for today as we're reading this week Proverbs and Ecclesiastes.

We kind of talked about both sides of the coin yesterday, and so we will probably juggle those back and forth a little bit. Sorry if it's a little bit out of order, but because these aren't necessarily stories to be told, we can do them a little bit out of order, right? That'd be all right.

Let's take a look inside of our verse for today at Proverbs chapter 2. Let's go inside here. We get kind of a description of the Lord, as many of these are, right?

What the Lord... It says in verse 7, "He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous. He is a buckler to them that walk uprightly." Now, many times you kind of just add an -er to the end of the term, and that describes somebody who does that.

But for those of you that are not history or war buffs, buckler does not mean it's just a person who buckles. Of all of the fiery darts of the adversary in this verse? No, he's not.

He's actually more the protector of those close blows that may be kind of the mortal wounds coming at you. He's going to be that small shield that's ready to as the sword who will protect you from the evil of the world. I thought, you know, that's not on people's list when they talk about the Lord is my shepherd and my light.

Buckler is definitely one I'm going to add to my list as I reflect on the role of what a buckler is in war and how it helps those hand-to-hand combat warriors. Hope that one's worth thinking into a little bit on your side of things. That's all for today, my friends.

You and I have come here for such a time as this. Step forward in faith and let's be Savory Salt. We will be here tomorrow, and we hope you are too.
