3.241 Short List for If You are Stuck

This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as Savory Salt.

Hello, my friends. It's a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom you will serve.

A very large welcome to all of you today. I typically start out with a question or a comment to kind of get the episode going. But today I just want to welcome.

We have reached a very exciting point here with Savory Salt that I just wanted to share with all of you. I say a very big welcome to Savory Salt, and I hope that you have a wonderful opportunity joining us and taking these little steps towards Christ every day. Now, we can forget that we need to get to our verse 4 today, which is going to come from Psalm 77.

This one needs to have a little bit of context around it. But again, as always, I encourage you, you're going to read this anyway because you're going to do your regular readings. As you're reading this week inside of Psalm 77, you will notice a journey that sounds, at least to me, very familiar to my life and one that may be very familiar to yours as well.

We basically have a journey here of challenge and difficulty. A journey wondering where the Lord is. A journey where the focus seems to be on the challenge itself, and the search seems to be on the Lord, but the Lord doesn't seem to be revealing himself.

That's kind of what's happening inside of Psalm 77. If that's only familiar to me, then perhaps you don't need to jump into this one. But this has been a very familiar point in my life, and I love some of the counsel and the verses inside of here.

I picked one that's very short because I believe it to be very powerful if we're experiencing these challenges where we can't seem to find the Lord, everything seems to be piling up in our lives, and we're just wondering what happened. Verse 12 is going to help us with that. Psalm 77, verse 12, says this: "I will meditate also of all thy work and talk of all thy doings." Now, remember, these are single sentences here; you need to go in and read all around it.

But here, something that stuck out to me. You're stuck in a challenge. You can find the Lord.

There are three things that I saw inside of this that became a quick list to continue to be able to hold on just a little bit more. What did I see in there? I will meditate.

Take some quiet time and focus. Meditate. Pray.

Prayer and meditation are very, very closely related. What are you meditating or praying on? I will meditate also of all thy work.

Thy work implying the Lord's work. And if you read the verses around here, what he's focused on is all of the past miracles where God has shown up for the people of Israel. What does that look like for you?

We get this in the Book of Mormon as well. We get a call to remember how merciful the Lord has been to the children of Israel. So take some time first to meditate.

What are you meditating on? You're taking time to remember all the times in your life, your family's lives, all of the places in scripture that you can think of where the Lord showed up. And then the third piece there: "and talk of thy doings." Then after your meditation, you go and you share with others those experiences.

It's very easy to be caught in a moment of drudge and dreary and focus on it, and someone says, "Hey, how are you doing?" and you're like, "Ah, I'm out, I'm down and out!" But here, after your meditation and focus on all the Lord has done for miracles, share it with others. Talk of thy doings. Talk of the things that the Lord has done in your life.

Share with others the miracles that you experienced. My friends, this doesn't end in Psalm 77 with just a miraculous moment of then the Lord appears. Instead, it kind of tends to focus here on the remembering, the meditation, and talking about the things the Lord does to help you out in your time of challenge.

I hope that's a small recipe for you to be able to have inside of dark moments and challenges that you face. And today, that is all for today, my friends. You and I have come here for such a time as this.
