2.205 Our Eyes are Upon Thee

In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to Him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as Savory Salt.

Hello, my friends. It's a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom you will serve.

What is it about our eyes that seems so important to the Lord? Have you ever considered how many different ways we're encouraged to use our eyes or to look or to behold? Inside of all of our ancient, modern, our eyes and beholding seem to be a common thread and a common symbol that the Lord uses for facing Him, seeing Him.

Let's take a look at our verse for today with that and then look at the different ways that our eyes are used scripturally and what it can mean for us Savory Salters out there. We are reading this week 2 Chronicles chapters 14 through 20, 26, and 30. We're going to stay inside of 2 Chronicles chapter 20 today.

As we entered that yesterday and kind of did an overview of the whole chapter. Now today, as we get into here, we're going to look at 2 Chronicles chapter 20, verse 12. We're still dealing with the surrounding of armies, I guess is the easiest way to say it, for Jehoshaphat and his people.

Inside of these early verses here, we see the challenges that they're facing and we see that they turn to the Lord, they gather at the temple, they're fasting, they're praying, they're uniting their hearts together. And then verse 12 comes along. 2 Chronicles 20, verse 12 says, The Bible says, "O our God, wilt thou not judge them? For we have no might against this great company that cometh against us.

Neither know we what to do, but our eyes are upon thee." Now notice the context in which they're facing this situation. They see that they are heathen nations that are surrounding them. They're not those that have made covenants with the Lord.

They don't even know what to do about it, right? "Neither know we what to do." They're waiting for counsel from the Lord. They don't know whether they're supposed to fight or whether they're just supposed to hunker down. They don't know the direction to go.

But what they do know is where to look: "Our eyes are upon thee." As I got reflecting into the power of our eyes and what it means for us, both symbolically and literally, when it comes to facing the Lord, I thought about different ways that our eyes show up in the scriptures. One way is the counsel the Lord gives us to look unto the Lord. We get several places where the Lord commands us to look unto Him. "Every thought," right? "'Doubt not, fear not,'" right?

Those are some of those that come to mind. Perhaps in Matthew or Doctrine and Covenants or other areas, you're thinking about having an "eye single to the glory of God." So now you've got this eye that's focused entirely on the glory and the work of the Lord. We also see our eyes come into play when it's lifting our eyes up, right? "Lift up your eyes towards the heavens." Seek the Lord as you do that, right? "The Eye of Faith." Yes, I did duplicate that statement.

I hope we all take an opportunity to focus on what our eyes are focused on. And ultimately, I hope that you and I take the opportunity regularly, if not at all times, to focus our eyes upon the Lord, to seek for His direction, His counsel, His guidance. He will deliver every time we do.
