Show Notes

Join Hope as she delves into 1 Samuel 17:47, the iconic moment of David facing Goliath, to reveal that 'the battle is the Lord's.' This episode explores trusting God to fight our personal Goliaths and overcome life's challenges through His divine power.

Key Points

  • David's declaration in 1 Samuel 17:47 emphasizes that ultimate victory comes from the Lord, not human strength or weaponry.
  • The story of David and Goliath serves as a powerful reminder that God is willing to fight our battles and help us conquer the 'Goliaths' in our lives.
  • Every challenge, big or small, is a fight the Lord cares about and desires to assist us in.
  • We are encouraged to let the Lord handle our struggles, finding peace and assurance in His constant presence and readiness to help.
  • Acknowledging that God has already won the ultimate war empowers us to step forward in faith and align ourselves with His victorious side.

The Lord truly is our weapon of war, and I know it sounds weird when I say it like that, but he is the one that is going to end up fighting the war and winning. He has already won. We just need to be on his side.

In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as Savory Salt.

Hello, my friends, it's a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom you will serve. Hello, it's me again, Hope, and I'm so very thankful to be here on the podcast again with you.

David is one of my very favorite stories in the Old Testament, and I'm so happy to be able to share a little bit that I learned from it this time going through. So, this week we have been in 1 Samuel, lots of random chapters throughout it, and starting out 2 Samuel as well. So, lots of reading, but we are still in 1 Samuel 17 because we need to get to the best part of the story.

So, let's dive into our verse for the day. We are going to be in 1 Samuel 17, verse 47. And this is what it says: And all this assembly shall know that the Lord saveth not with sword and spear, for the battle is the Lord, and he will give you into our hands.

So this verse is David going up to Goliath without any armor on. He's the small guy against the giant Goliath, you know, physically. And he's like, dude, this isn't my fight.

You're like mocking me and stuff, but I'm just here in the name of the Lord and this isn't my fight. I'm going to let the Lord defeat you. And I know he will.

For he is my Lord, like that kind of thing. And then, you know, the epic scene that everybody knows, it's like, dun dun dun, dun dun dun dun, dun dun dun! I know, lovely singing voice.

Legend of Zelda for all of you who knows what that theme song is from. But anyway, so it's like the epic moment David throws his sling at Goliath, hits him straight in the forehead, and the crowd goes wild. Goliath is down and David has won.

Except that it wasn't David. David even says that in here. He's like, I'm not the one who just did this.

It is the Lord. The Lord delivered him into my hands. There's no way I could have done that alone.

And that is the perspective that I want to take today. So, in all of our Goliaths that we have in our lives, like we've been talking about this week, the Lord is the one that is going to end up fighting them and ending those battles and those wars. He is going to fight our battles and he is going to be the one to help us through them.

Every fight is the Lord's fight. It's not just, oh, but it's a baseball game. He's not going to help me win a baseball game or whatever, soccer, whatever it is.

And the Lord's like, actually, I can help that ball go into that net or pass the pitcher's hand so he can't catch it. I can help you win this thing if you would let me. So every fight is the Lord's fight.

He cares about what you care about. He's not just this distant guy. If you remember my episode from the beginning of the year, I talked about talking to him face to face.

If you haven't listened to that episode, I would suggest you go back and listen to it, find it. I finally asked for help again. Now I can go down and help her.

It like yay. The Lord is celebrating when he gets the opportunity to come down and help us. It what he waiting for.

I put a link in here to a song from the new Angel movie called "David". We've put a song in here from this movie before. This one is a different one.

It's called "Shalom". And the message in it is pretty much calm down. You're going to be fine.

Let the Lord handle it. And so I thought it was perfect for this episode. Please take a few minutes and listen to it.

It is a wonderful song. I love it so much. I know that the Lord will be there through all of our fights, all of our battles, because he cares about us.

He is the one who is guiding our hand through everything. And I'm so very thankful for him in my life. The Lord truly is our weapon of war, and I know it sounds weird when I say it like that, but he is the one that is going to end up fighting the war and winning.

He has already won. We just need to be on his side. That's all for today, my friends.

You and I have come here for such a time as this. Step forward in faith and let's be savory salt. We'll be here tomorrow. We hope you are too.
