In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to Him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as Savory Salt.

Hello, my friends. It's a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom you will serve.

See if this sounds familiar? Righteous people follow the Lord. They're winning in life.

They prosper. They become prideful. They fall into sin and idol worship.

They get attacked or some outside disturbance drives them into slavery or something. They have troubles. This cycle is found so often inside of Scripture, I think the Lord might be trying to tell us something.

Are we paying attention? We are moving our readings this week into the Book of Judges, and the Book of Judges is an interesting book. It's actually not just a single book.

The Book of Judges, the Book of Ruth, the Book of Samuel 1 and 2, all of those books are actually historically one book. They've just been segmented out. I want to start it off here with our verse for today and kind of the thought that I've got around the verse, specifically in Judges 2:10.

It says, my friends, how often do we read about a rising generation that does not know the Lord? We learn about a rising generation that has not witnessed the miracles or the things that the Lord has done for Israel. This is a very, very common occurrence inside of Scripture.

And so today, the thought is quite short, but powerful, especially if you're going to apply it in your own life, as is our desire inside of Savory Salt. And it goes like this: What else needs to happen for you to continue to know the Lord in your life? And how can you help those around you continue to know the Lord better in their lives as well?

The parameter I want to put inside of this—or maybe "parameter" is not the right word. Let's see. The example I would give here is: imagine a relationship with a good friend that you've had for years.

My friends, I hope you take an opportunity today to look at your relationship with the Lord. Look at those around you that you have influence over, whether it's family members, up or down the chain, right? Up the generational chain or down the generational chain.

Look at their relationship with the Lord and encourage them to know the Lord. This pride cycle that we seem to see inside Scripture so often seems so often to begin with a generation that knew not the Lord. What can you and I do today to encourage our own selves and those around us to continually seek to know the Lord?

That's a powerful thought today. What a great start to the week as we dive into the Book of Judges. That's all for today, my friends.

You and I have come here for such a time as this. Step forward in faith and let's be Savory Salt. We will be here tomorrow, and we hope you are too.
