3.126 You Are Not a Grasshopper to the Lord
Full Transcript
In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to Him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as Savory Salt.
Hello my friends. It's a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom you will serve.
Have you ever been in a situation where you see the challenge before you and it is ginormous? What's your response in that moment? We are reading this week basically the book of Numbers.
Although I'll give you one more time in terms of what it is in Come Follow Me. Numbers 11 through 14. And I'm probably leaning on the complaining bus a little bit as well, that where we find a bit of our story inside of Numbers 13.
But it's such an important part of the story here because this is really what prevents the children of Israel from getting into the Promised Land the first time. It's this scenario. Let's take a look at our verse for today.
Numbers 13, verse 33. And this might be kind of a part one, part two. You'll definitely see where I'm going on the part two side of things as I share part one here.
Numbers 13, we're getting a report of the land that the spies have been sent to look over. What is this Promised Land? What type of fruit grows there?
What's the land like? What's the setting like? What are the people that are currently living there like?
My friends, the report back to Moses is there no way we can take this land because we are so small and insignificant compared to our enemies. Now, how many times in the scriptures do we need a story about the small and insignificant overcoming the incredible odds with the Lord's help? This is such a recurring story that I can't help but wonder if the Lord is trying to get a message through to us.
It's almost like it's okay to be the grasshopper in this story. The Lord's almost like, hey, by the way, I like underdog stories. So if you happen to be an underdog, I'm cheering for you.
I like to think of it that way because we find out here on our part two tomorrow, the other side of the coin. But my friends, we see this in Old Testament as doubts creep in and they creep in when it looks like you're too small to handle this. We certainly see in the Book of Mormon as, right off the beginning story, the ones closest to the Old Testament.
I hope that you and I in our moments of feeling grasshoppery, if that's a word, that we realize that we are never grasshoppers to the Lord. Don't buy into the sad story. Don't buy into the story that you can't accomplish the things that the Lord has commanded you.
We know Nephi 3:7 well. We know that the Lord, when He commands us to do something, will provide a way and a means for us to do so. So, in those moments where you feel small, insignificant, perhaps even so small as a grasshopper or maybe even an ant, I truly believe that.
And I hope you find that in your scripture studies to believe it as well. That's all for today my friends. You and I have come here for such a time as this.
Step forward in faith and let's be Savory Salt. We will be here tomorrow and we hope you are too.
