In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to Him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as Savory Salt.
Hello, my friends. It's a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom you will serve.
Have you ever been scared to talk about the gospel because you just weren't sure what you were going to say? So have many of the prophets. You are definitely in good company and you are certainly in the company with Moses.
As we are going through our readings here in Exodus chapters 1 through 6, we find out that Moses, like many of the prophets, have been called through scriptures, found themselves inadequate in their calling. Specifically, when it came to teaching the people or calling the people to repentance. I think this is a cool theme to see the way the Lord responds every time these prophets are worried about their own inadequacies.
And I think it an opportunity for us to see in our own lives what the Lord could be saying to us as well, not just the prophets that he calls, but all of us that he calls to do his work. Our verse for today is inside of Exodus chapter 4 and it's verse 12. This is when Moses is continuing to learn from the Lord what his jobs and responsibilities are to be when it comes to helping the children of Israel.
And in verse 12, the Lord, speaking to him, says, "Now, therefore, go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say." Now, if you continue reading the story, the interesting part of this is Moses still doesn't trust the Lord. The Lord ends up saying, "Fine, I'll get Aaron to do it." He's like, "We're going to get this done." We're going to make sure that my words are here and that they're shared with others. And Moses plays a role inside of the speaking parts, but the Lord also establishes Aaron to do so as well.
My friends, when it comes to teaching the gospel to others, when it comes to bearing your testimony, how many times do you shy away from it because you just not sure what to say? You just not sure if you going to say it the right way? I used to think like that in a lot of different ways.
And then I let go. I let go because I let the Lord decide what that experience was going to be. And instead, my approach was to.
I love this verse. First, the promise that the Lord will be with thy mouth. And second, that the Lord would teach what to say.
My friends, if you and I will lean into bearing our testimonies with this faith, faith that the Lord will be with us and teach us, our testimonies will become easier to share. As others turn to us and ask us, that he will teach us the things to say and fill our mouths at the time to say them. That's the power of testimony.
I believe the Holy Ghost helps us do that. And I think the Lord is mindful of all of us, whether prophet or any other calling in the church, when it comes to sharing our testimony with others. He simply asks that we trust that he truly can be with our mouths.
That's all for today, my friends. You and I have come here for such a time as this. Step forward in faith and let's be savory salt. We will be here tomorrow and we hope you are too.
