In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to Him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as savory salt.
Hello, my friends, it's a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom you will serve. If Moses did it, so can we.
That's the thought that keeps stewing in my mind as I get into our message for today. We're reading this week Exodus chapters 1 through 6 where we're starting to see Moses receive His calling to help the children of Israel. To get out of Egypt and return to their land of Canaan.
It's inside this story. There's a lot of this inside of here that I want to dive into, but as always, we just choose one verse and one thought as we go through the week. So there's going to be pieces here that I hope you find in your own study and reflect upon as well.
But this idea that Moses did it and so can we has been stewing in my mind as I see his story, especially as he's got moments where he's trying to figure life out. He's got moments when he's alone, moments when he seems like he's in the wrong place at the wrong time, moments when he's trying to stand up for what he believes is good, and it doesn't work out for him. There are just so many different ways that his story speaks to me in my life.
And then we get to this piece here, and I thought, 'Wow, what does this mean for me and for you?' Our verse for today is in Exodus chapter 3. And the front end of Exodus chapter 3 is interesting because this is where Moses meets the Lord in the burning bush, right? This is the burning bush moment and he's gone into the mountain of God and there experiences the burning bush moment.
And it's in this that he finds out that the Lord has heard the cries of the Israelites. He's heard their pleas and it's time to save them. And so you kind of listen to this and you go, wow, the Lord is going to go save His people.
And then we get to verse 10 and verse 10 stood out to me this time. It says this. This is the Lord speaking to Moses: 'Come now therefore, and I will send thee.' And the Lord certainly has the ability to do that.
And He could, through hearing the prayers of the children of Israel, have simply stepped into the affairs of men and handled it Himself. The Lord works through His prophets. He calls them.
They serve for Him. But it doesn't stop there. And this is the piece that I think connects to each one of us.
The Lord also, through His prophets and Apostles and through His priesthood authority, calls all of us in different ways and times to serve inside the Kingdom. And I think if we take that lens into the play of verse 10 here, we will see the phrase, 'I will send thee' in our own lives if we're willing to be sent. My friends, we have an opportunity to be like Moses.
We have an opportunity to accept our callings as the Lord delivers them to us in whatever ways that happens. We have the opportunity to fulfill the will of the Lord if we will listen to those moments when He says, 'I will send thee.' My friends, the children of Israel are going to be saved. And Moses gets the kind of hero moment.
We get these epic stories coming with the plagues and Pharaoh and parting the Red Sea. We have some epic moments coming with Moses and yet it all starts in verse 10 here where the Lord says, 'I heard the prayers of others and I will send thee to accomplish that task.' May you and I accept the Lord when He says, 'I will send thee' today, and may we be able to accomplish the tasks that He has asked us to do, and may those tasks be a blessing to others. Those are my thoughts and prayers as I reflect on this verse today.
Little side note as we wrap up here. I love when my daughters share their messages here on Savory Salt. And if you didn't get a chance to listen yesterday to Hope's message, please take an opportunity to do so.
Her message to invite others is a beautiful message. It's a chance for all of us to reframe the way we go about our lives. And it's also a chance for us to see the Lord saying, 'Hey, I will send thee through your invitation.' I just wanted to do a shout out to Hope for that.
I love when my girls take an opportunity and say, 'Hey, Dad, can I do an episode?' The answer will always be yes for me there. That's all for today, my friends. You and I have come here for such a time as this.
Step forward in faith and let's be savory salt. We will be here tomorrow and we hope you are too.
