In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to Him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as savory salt.
Hello my friends. It's a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom you will serve.
What is it that draws you towards making covenants with Heavenly Father? That's been stewing in my mind as we've been reading this week Genesis chapters 12 through 17 and Abraham 1 and 2. Especially through the idea of this Abrahamic covenant.
And we've looked at different verses and scriptures, conference talks, words of prophets that have given us some inside views to this covenant making and keeping. I want to finish up this week by going back to Genesis chapter 17 and looking at one that I have absolutely seen evidence of in my life as I've tried my best to keep the covenants that I've made with Heavenly Father. And I want to share just a little bit of that idea with you today.
Our verse for today comes in Genesis chapter 17 verse 2. And this is God and Abraham talking. And basically these opening verses here of 17 is really where God is going to discuss this covenant with Abram, who is going to receive a new name and become Abraham.
It says here that God, speaking here: "And I will make my covenant between me and thee and will multiply thee exceedingly." Now that phrase really stuck out to me because I took time this week to kind of reflect back at my life and see the places and the times that I feel that I've been directly multiplied. We were going out, it was a Sunday and we were going to go to a church for the Maasai people. And so it was Maasai church and we were just trying to be respectful of the day and still attend a church that we could get to.
And as we pulled up into the parking lot, we were greeted by several of the other leaders of this congregation. He introduced himself and we were excited to be there, whatever. And he goes, he pulls our driver aside.
The driver was a good friend of mine, but he pulls him aside, says a few things to him. And then the driver, David, walks over to me and he puts his arm around me and he says, Allen, today you will preach the sermon. And I'm like, yes, I will.
And so with about as much time as it took for me to walk from the Jeep to the inside of the church is the time of preparation that I had to prepare my thoughts and to consider what I might be able to share with these incredible people that had come to worship the Lord. And then David became my translator through that experience. And it was actually kind of fun while I was, it was a new experience for sure.
If you haven't attended Maasai Church, it's much, much louder than any of our congregations, even on our loud days and lots of music, lots of singing and dancing, very, very loud. And then when it got time to preach, I stood up and I wanted to share thoughts on faith from Alma chapter 32. And I didn't quite know how to go about that because obviously, the Lord has multiplied the covenants that I've made with Him.
That's not because of who Allen is. That's because I'm trying to do my best to live my covenants and I do feel that the Lord at times has absolutely multiplied me exceedingly. So it's not a pat on the back for me.
Instead, it's a shout out to the covenants that I've made. I hope that you have had such experiences as you've made covenants with the Lord. And if you haven't, continue to keep those covenants and you will see that in many ways and shapes and forms in your life, the Lord will absolutely multiply thee exceedingly as he did Abraham and as he's done in my life as well.
That's all for today my friends. You and I have come here for such a time as this. Step forward in faith and let's be savory salt. We will be here tomorrow and we hope you are too.
