In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to Him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as Savory Salt.
Hello, my friends, it's a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom you will serve. The world is full of sides.
Have you picked a side? Or are you still sitting on the fence? It's time to pick a side.
My friends, we're coming to the tail end of Genesis chapters 12 through 17 as well as Abraham chapters 1 and 2. And as we get ready to wrap this one up, I couldn't help but add, I guess it's a talk, maybe it's better written as a, maybe it's a Well, it's better said as an article that's inside the Liahona. I'll make sure that you have the link because it is the actual reading for today.
So you definitely will have the link. But this is October of 2022 and it's from President Russell M. Nelson.
It's titled "The Everlasting Covenant." I absolutely would encourage you to dive into this message. I know that he also did a conference talk associated with this, so I'm not sure which one formally in conference versus I know this one in Liahona. So, regardless of where it came from, this is President Nelson talking, and he does a great section on Genesis chapter 17, which could help in your study this week.
That's why I selected this one as kind of a bonus article for us to dive into and get a little bit more out of our modern revelation, as well as the ancient revelation of the scriptures in the Old Testament. I want to share with you two paragraphs. I guess in scriptural terms, these would be two verses technically, but it's two paragraphs that I want to share with you that come from President Nelson's message here about making covenants.
The first one says this: "Once we make a covenant with God, we leave neutral ground forever." God will not abandon his relationship with those who have And so, fast forward just a little bit, and he says this: "Once you and I have made a covenant with God, our relationship with Him becomes much closer than before our covenant." Now, we are bound together. Because of our covenant with God, He will never tire in His efforts to help us, and we will never exhaust His merciful patience with us. Each of us has a special place in God's heart.
He has high hopes for us. What encouraging thoughts are these? These are, this just lifts my soul.
This puts a smile on my face. This lifts my heart. And I want to encourage you wherever you are in the covenantal path with our Heavenly Father to continue to make and keep the covenants that you have made.
It takes us off neutral ground. This is a promise to me and to you. As we make covenant with our Heavenly Father, we get off the fence.
It's time to pick a side, and it's time to stay on that side, lean into the Lord, and see the power of the covenants in our lives. I know that by doing so, the side we pick becomes an eternal decision rather than one that goes with the waves of whatever's happening in any nation we live in, community we live in, or otherwise. My friends, may you and I choose the Lord's side and may we do so with our covenants again and again.
That is a hopeful thought. That's all for today, my friends. You and I have come here for such a time as this.
Step forward in faith and let's be Savory Salt. We will be here tomorrow and we hope you are too.
