In Matthew 5:13, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth, a bold reminder that our lives are meant to carry his flavor, his truth, and his love to the world. Join me each day to explore one verse of scripture and one thought, striving to stay full of savor and truly live as savory salt. Hello my friends, it's great to have you with me.
Today let's be anxiously engaged in a good cause and bring to pass much righteousness. We draw near to the end of the season here as we've been reading Moroni chapters 2 through 8 as well as focused on attributes of the living Christ. We're going to finish this week here in Moroni chapter 8 and then our last few thoughts will be from Moroni chapters 9 and 10.
As we finish out this season and move into the Old Testament on Savory Salt, starting, it'll be kind of a midweek start for the season because that's when we'll start January 1. In terms of calendar year, although whenever you listen to this, it's totally fine. Moroni chapter 8 is one that is very dear to my heart because it records a letter from his dad.
And I relate with that because I too have lost my father but have in my possession a handful of letters that he wrote to me mostly on my mission. And have at times been able to take those out and reflect on his words written to me. And so this piece here, I can see a father trying to write to his son and theirs is a little bit more doomsday than mine, right?
As Mormon is watching the end of his civilization and trying to counsel his son to hold on and stay in the faith and continue to serve Jesus Christ. I hope in some ways that my moments here with Savory Salt could be some sort of letter to my daughters and maybe at some point to my grandchildren. I know my daughters don't all, I've only got a daughter too that listens to Savory Salt and that's okay.
That's their choices. I hope that at some point that perhaps if they just want to hear the voice of their dad or want to ever wonder what dad would say at a time like this, that maybe an episode of Savory Salt pops in and into their head. Let's look at the verse here in Moroni chapter 8.
I'm going to go with verse 2 here. It says, "My beloved son Moroni, I rejoice exceedingly that your Lord Jesus Christ hath been mindful of you and hath called you to his ministry and to his holy work." This is another way I can relate with this chapter as I've recently, I mentioned before, my daughter came home from her mission and being able to see her growth and see what she's done as she's served faithfully in Argentina and then to see our next oldest turn 18 and with the change here recently with the ages for missionaries, see her processing what that's going to look and sound like for her to turn in her papers and go forward and serve. There's a special place here as a parent to be able to see and rejoice exceedingly as the phrase is here in verse 2.
To rejoice exceedingly that Jesus Christ has been mindful of your family. My friends, Jesus Christ has been mindful of my family many times, more times than I'll... I am grateful to Him and I rejoice exceedingly with my family and at times alone as well that the Lord Jesus Christ has been mindful of us and I also acknowledge that He has called us to the work, His holy work.
You've been called as well. If you haven't jumped in yet, what are you waiting for? With the recent passing of President Holland, he's made an indelible impact on my testimony as well.
As I saw him return and be called to the ministry at a whole 'nother level of service. My friends, we have more to give and we can give so much more as we turn to Christ and get into his holy work together. That's all for today my friends.
Lift up your hearts and rejoice. Cleave unto the covenants that you have made and together we will be savory salt.
