In Matthew 5:13, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth, a bold reminder that our lives are meant to carry his flavor, his truth, and his love to the world. Join me each day to explore one verse of scripture and one thought, striving to stay full of savor and truly live as savory salt. Hello, my friends, it's great to have you with me.
Today let's be anxiously engaged in a good cause and bring to pass much righteousness. I can't believe we've reached day 360 out of 365. We are right on the edge of finishing the Book of Mormon as well as the Doctrine and Covenants in this season of Savory Salt.
In this episode I've titled "The Good Just Keeps Getting Better." We're reading this week Messages, special messages and testimonies of Jesus Christ, as well as Moroni chapters 2 through 8. And our message today comes from Moroni chapter 7, although really, as we find out in chapter 7, it's a message from Mormon. As Moroni spends some time recording some special messages from his father and the preaching that his father did.
That in and of itself should be a lesson to all of us. Let's take a look at one of the verses here inside of Moroni chapter 7, very commonly known as kind of the faith, hope, and charity chapter. But the message here is before we get to the faith, hope, and charity part.
It's in Moroni chapter 7, verse 13. "But behold, that which is of God inviteth and enticeth to do good continually. Wherefore everything which inviteth and enticeth to do good, and to love God, and to serve him, is inspired of God." Now there's an interesting checklist here that I think finished off before you finish the sentence in today's modern world. There's a lot of good out there.
President Oaks has given a very well-known talk about "Good, Better, Best." And yet, even in that talk, we're going to talk about that in just a second. Inside of there, did you notice here that this isn't just about doing good? It says, "Wherefore, everything which inviteth and enticeth to do good," that's not the only requirement to be inspired of God.
We should begin by recognizing the reality that just because something is good is not a sufficient reason for doing it. The number of good things we can do far exceeds the time available to accomplish them. Some things are better than good, and these things are the things that should command priority attention in our lives.
My friends, as we get to a wrap-up of the season here and transition into a new season of Savory Salt, I want to plant a seed inside of your heart and mind that you consider the things you've been doing good in your life and realize that there may be things that could be better and to command priority attention for those things. In this talk of "Good, Better, Best," the summary says, "we have to forego some good things in order to choose others that are better or best because they develop faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and strengthen our families." That, I believe, is what Moroni is talking about in verse 13. Did you catch those qualifiers there?
It's not just about doing good. It's about doing good that drives us to love God, to serve Him. Those things are inspired of God.
That is how the gospel of Jesus Christ makes good things just keep getting better. And that is a priority that we could put a little emphasis on as we get into the new season and the new opportunities. A chance to take a look at the good things in our life, see which ones entice us to love God, to serve Him, and to live the gospel more abundantly, and then choose to do those priorities in our lives.
That's all for today, my friends. Lift up your hearts and rejoice. Cleave unto the covenants you have made, and together we will be savory salt. For more information, visit us at allenroberds.com.
