Allen Roberds delves into Mormon 7:9, explaining its powerful "if this, then that" principle regarding scripture. This episode emphasizes how belief in the Book of Mormon leads to belief in the Bible, and vice versa, as all sacred texts are designed to testify of Jesus Christ and foster spiritual growth.
Key Points
- Mormon 7:9 illustrates an 'if this, then that' principle, connecting belief in the Book of Mormon with belief in the Jewish record (the Bible) and understanding God's marvelous works.
- The episode highlights Mormon's teaching that accepting one record strengthens faith in the other, showing a unified purpose across different scriptural accounts.
- Allen Roberds clarifies that all scriptures, including the Book of Mormon, Bible, Doctrine and Covenants, and Pearl of Great Price, universally testify of Jesus Christ.
- Listeners are encouraged to continue their scripture study, realizing that all sacred writings are intended to uplift and strengthen them by revealing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
I hope that you can continue to study your scriptures and continually realize that the scriptures are designed, all of them, to testify of Jesus Christ.

In Matthew 5:13, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth, a bold reminder that our lives are meant to carry his flavor, his truth, and his love to the world. Join me each day to explore one verse of scripture and one thought, striving to stay full of savor and truly live as savory salt. Hello my friends, it's great to have you with me.
Today let's be anxiously engaged in a good cause and bring to pass much righteousness. Today let's talk about the Lord's version of if this then that. We've been reading this week Doctrine and Covenants Sections 135 and 136 as well as Mormon Chapters 7 through Ether Chapter 2.
We're going to come back into the Book of Mormon reading to finish out. Let's get into this. Mormon 7 is pretty interesting.
It's kind of the sad tale, right, of Mormon wrapping things up. We know that through Mormon 7, 8, and 9, Mormon's going to be killed in battle, and Moroni is going to take possession of the plates here. And so we're really getting the very tail end of Mormon's writings here.
And in Mormon Chapter 7, we get an if this, then that moment. And it's a powerful one for each one of us, especially when it comes to understanding scripture. Let's take a look and see what the verse says and then talk about it.
It's Mormon Chapter 7, Verse 9. And just in context of Verse 9, Verse 8, just right before it, is Mormon calling on everyone to repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, right? And to receive the gospel of Jesus Christ.
And then he talks about these two records. And then it goes into Verse 9. It says, "For behold, this is written for the intent that ye may believe that.
And if you believe that, you will believe this also. And if you believe this, you will know concerning your fathers, and also the marvelous works which were wrought by the power of God among them." Now, what is the "this" Mormon referring? This would be the writings that he's writing, right?
So this is the Book of Mormon that he's putting together. And "that" is in context of Verse 8. That would be the record from the Jews.
We also would know that as the Old Testament and the New Testament, right? The Bible. And so Mormon's trying to help us know that if we are really seeking Jesus Christ and really seeking to live His gospel, then whichever one we're reading, we're going...
I don't know if it's a real meme. It might be a real meme because I've seen memes like it. I mean, I'm seeing signs like it, I guess I should say.
But there was a meme with a southern church, you know, I don't know which church it was, The Bible, Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, Pearl of Great Price. And I always chuckle at that because I have met people, especially my time living in Texas, but I have met people that are... There's not just a quote from Joseph Smith, right, that says, "Behold, I do not bring the Book of Mormon forth to destroy the Bible, but to build it up." So wherever it is you are in your scripture study — Doctrine and Covenants, Book of Mormon, Bible, Pearl of Great Price — whatever it is you're trying to do, remember that scripture is going to feed scripture.
Revelation is going to feed revelation. I hope that you can continue to study your scriptures and continually realize that the scriptures are designed, all of them, to testify of Jesus Christ. Ultimately, I hope that through that, you can find His gospel in those teachings and be uplifted and strengthened in all of your scripture study going forward.
That's all for today, my friends. Lift up your hearts and rejoice. Cleave unto the covenants you have made, and together we will be savory salt.
