2.211 Whatsoever Is Truth Is Light

Today let's be anxiously engaged in a good cause and bring to pass much righteousness. My friends, today let's talk about resonance and dissonance. We are reading this week Doctrine and Covenants Section 84 as well as Alma chapters 39–42.

And I think resonance and dissonance have a little something to say about that. Yesterday we talked about the oath and covenant of the priesthood and we didn't get very far past that before we got to our next verse for today. I know there's 120 verses in here but I'm having a hard time getting past the 40s.

So our verse for today is Doctrine and Covenants Section 84, verse 45 and it says this: For the word of the Lord is truth and whatsoever is truth is light and whatsoever is light is spirit even the spirit of Jesus Christ. Christ is literally truth and light. Now what does that mean for resonance and dissonance?

My friends, if you connect those dominoes the way that I did here, let's see if my brain does this right. The word of the Lord is truth. Truth is light.

Light is spirit, even the spirit of Jesus Christ. My friends, when the Savior tells us and invites us to let our light shine, is he encouraging us to let our spirits out and be shared so that his spirit can touch the lives of others around us. Now resonance is an interesting thing when we're talking about music that is in resonance.

We're talking about vibrations that match each other. They go together. They are in resonance and it creates beautiful sounds.

Then you have music that is dissonant or it is in discord. Where is the light, the truth and the spirit of Jesus Christ? And things that are in dissonance or discord with that, namely, things that are in darkness?

An opportunity for you and I to self-evaluate what is resonant, what is in accordance with light and truth and spirit? And what is in dissonance or in discord? Perhaps there's not the whole playlist that we have, but perhaps there's a song or two in our playlist that's a little bit more discord than it is resonant with the Spirit of the Lord.

Maybe it's a particular episode of a show that we watch. Maybe it's the show itself. I don't know what it is.

Maybe it's phrases inside the household. But this is an opportunity for all of us in our path of savory salt to take an opportunity to say if the word of the Lord is truth and truth is light and light is spirit, what do I need to do to be resonant? What do I need to do to be in alignment with Spirit and light and truth and thus invite it more into my life?

That's an opportunity for each one of us to take steps up and be just a little bit more resonant with our Savior Jesus Christ. That's all for today my friends. Lift up your hearts and rejoice.
