In Matthew 5:13, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth, a bold reminder that our lives are meant to carry his flavor, his truth, and his love to the world. Join me each day to explore one verse of scripture and one thought, striving to stay full of savor and truly live as savory salt. Hello my friends, it is great to have you with me.
Today let's be anxiously engaged in a good cause and bring to pass much righteousness. The Lord's business. This week we're reading Doctrine and Covenants sections 64–66 as well as Alma chapters 11–15.
The verse I wanted to share today was actually three verses and I was wrestling and struggling and I'm like, which one of the three is going to be the one that I'm going to read today. I was trying to find connections to them and I was trying to piece them together because I couldn't share all three of these verses or it would take out the rest of the week. And so then I found it.
I found a talk by President Thomas S. Monson from 1987, the April conference in 1987. And he happened to reference all three of the verses that I was trying to piece together.
So we're going to have a little bit of a thought from President Monson. This one's going to look like a little bit of a curveball, and it actually is just the front end of my reflection and thinking inside of this. So let's take a look at what we can see inside of the verse and then the beginning of these thoughts.
I need to reflect more in this, but I want to share it here and put a bookmark here. Maybe you can reflect into it as well. Doctrine and Covenants section 64, verse 29: Wherefore, as ye are agents, ye are on the Lord's errand.
And whatever ye do according to the will of the Lord is the Lord's business. Now the other verses that I wanted to share are 33 and 34. And as I mentioned, the talk that you're going to see inside of there, you'll see those connect.
But isn't this interesting? As ye are agents, first of all, my friends, when you and I sit down and partake of the sacrament on the Sabbath day, we take upon ourselves the name of Jesus Christ, in effect, becoming agents. We're on the Lord's errand.
I'm going to be in the will of the Lord is the Lord's business. My friends, I want to be in the business of the Lord's business. I want to act in accordance with what He wants me to do.
And the talk by President Monson, oh, it's so good. It's called "Tears, Trials, Trust, Testimony." It is awesome. It's a classic President Monson with great storytelling in it.
I would absolutely encourage you to take some time for this one. But he mentions this at the end of the talk. Tabernacles and temples are built with more than stone and mortar, wood and glass.
Particularly is this true when we speak of the temple described by the Apostle Paul? Know ye not that ye are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? Such temples are built with faith and fasting.
They are built with service and sacrifice. They are built with trials and testimonies. If any brethren within the sound of my voice feel unprepared, even incapable of responding to a call to serve, to sacrifice, to bless the lives of others, remember the truth: whom God calls, God qualifies.
Thee who notes the sparrow fall will not abandon the servant need. My friends, I want a greater emphasis in my own life of realizing as an agent of Jesus Christ if I will be upon the Lord's errand, I will be in the Lord's business and He will be in mine. I want that focus in my life and I'm excited to flush this one out some more.
Be interested. This one's one I wish was a little bit more of a discussion piece. I'd be interested.
I'm excited to hear some of your responses on what you think of that one as well. My friends, as we are in the details of the Lord in our lives, the Lord is in the details in our lives. I am grateful for Him and I want and ask in my own prayers for His guidance and direction that He may be in my business and that I can be about His business.
That's all for today, my friends. Lift up your hearts and rejoice. Cleave into the covenants you have made and together we will be Savory Salt.
