In Matthew 5:13, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth, a bold reminder that our lives are meant to carry His flavor, His truth, and His love to the world. Join me each day to explore one verse of scripture and one thought, striving to stay full of savor and truly live as savory salt. Hello, my friends, great to have you with me.
Today, let's be anxiously engaged in a good cause and bring to pass much righteousness. Oh my goodness, did you make it through the week? Doctrine and Covenants sections 51β57, well done getting those accomplished.
And Mosiah chapters 26 through Alma chapter 1. You had a bunch of reading, some awesome storytelling, some amazing verses. You know, here's a checkup moment for us all.
I hope you are finding in here what the scriptures mean for you. As you have jumped into this daily study and as you have sought to be a little bit more savory in your journey, I hope that you are finding a greater love for the scriptures. I know I am.
And I love it. Let's just say I love it. Our verse for today, we're going to actually do one more verse in Mosiah.
I was going to do one from Alma chapter 1, but just a reminder: Alma, you know, the Book of Alma only covers about 39 or 40 years, right? And yet it's this big, massive chunk of the Book of Mormon, 161 pages or something like that, I think I have in my notes here. That is a huge chunk, and it's only about 40 years.
So what we're going to spend time in in Alma, the Lord is trying to say, "Hey folks, with all the book here, a big chunk is this to learn." So we'll dive into Alma as we get into next week, even though I wanted to share a couple from Alma chapter 1. Our verse for today is instead Mosiah chapter 28, verse 1. It says this: "Now it came to pass that after the sons of Mosiah had done all these things"βand by "all these things," I should refer to Mosiah 27, verse 37; they're basically publishing peace.
Okay, these are the things they're doing: preaching good tidings and all those things. They're bearing their testimony, okay? Sorry about that, I meant to interrupt.
Let me go again here, let's see. "After doing all these things, they took a small number with them and returned to their father, the king, and desired of him that he would grant unto them that they might, with these whom they had selected, go up to the land of Nephi, that they might preach the things which they had heard and that they might impart the word of God to their brethren the Lamanites." My friends, I love this β this verse, 1, 2, 3. We see the Spirit of the Lord working on a group of men that were, as referenced in this chapter, the vilest of sinners. This is what repentance and true conversion looks like.
It looks like, one, an acceptance that they are loved from Heavenly Father, right? He loves them; even in their vilest state, He loves them and He seeks for their repentance. And then as they receive the sweetness of what repentance is, their desire is to share it.
Where are they going to share it? They want to share it with their mortal enemies. That's what the gospel of Jesus Christ is doing to them.
It is a desire for them to reach out to those that hate them the most and say, "Hey, Jesus loves you too." I love this. This is such a testament to me of what the power of the Holy Ghost does for each one of us as we receive forgiveness of our sins. As we are truly converted to the gospel of Jesus Christ, it drives us from the inside out to go and to share the gospel β to declare that Jesus Christ is real, that His power and His Atonement covers all sin and pain and suffering.
This is the message that those men want to go share. And I'm excited for it because as we get into Alma, we get a lot of these guys' individual stories of their mission experiences. And I get excited for it.
My friends, the gospel of Jesus Christ is one of repentance, forgiveness, and joy. It is one of rejoicing and publishing peace. I am so grateful for the experience here to see that their conversion led them to a desire to preach.
I hope that you and I take every opportunity we can to preach the good tidings from the Lord Jesus Christ. That's all for today, my friends. Lift up your hearts and rejoice.
Cleave to the covenants you have made and together we will be savory salt. Music
