Show Notes
Discover how Doctrine and Covenants 56:14 reveals that counseling in our own ways can hinder repentance and divine pardon. Allen Roberds connects this powerful scripture to President Nelson's message on having confidence in approaching God right now, urging listeners to trust His divine counsel for true spiritual growth and forgiveness.
Key Points
- Doctrine and Covenants 56:14 teaches that sins may not be pardoned if we insist on counseling in our own ways rather than seeking divine guidance.
- True repentance requires letting go of personal desires and fully trusting in the Lord's wisdom and direction.
- President Russell M. Nelson's talk 'Confidence in the Presence of God' encourages us to approach Heavenly Father with assurance, knowing He hears and understands our needs.
- Having confidence in God means believing He loves us, sends angels, and yearns to help us reach our highest potential.
- By yielding our will to God and allowing Him to lead, we can gain greater confidence in approaching Him right now for help and guidance.
Allen, you can do better at letting go of counseling in your own ways. You can have confidence in approaching the Lord right now as you turn to Him and allow Him.

In Matthew 5:13, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth, a bold reminder that our lives are meant to carry his flavor, his truth, and his love to the world. Join me each day to explore one verse of scripture and one thought, striving to stay full of savor and truly live as savory salt. Hello my friends, great to have you with me.
Today let's be anxiously engaged in a good cause and bring to pass much righteousness. My friends, this week has been over in Doctrine and Covenants, over in the Book of Mormon, over in Doctrine and Covenants. We're going to wrap up one more thought inside of our readings from Doctrine and Covenants, sections 51 through 57, as we've been reading that this week.
And we're going to wrap up tomorrow with Mosiah, chapters 26 through chapter 1. Our verse for today comes out of Doctrine and Covenants section 56. I got to tell you, verses 14 through 18 are power verses for me.
It's such a great place to kind of look at and see the Lord specifically give things to be aware of when it comes to repentance. I think a lot of times we kind of hear repentance and we think, oh, I just need to repent. What I need to repent of.
And the Lord gives us some great insight and direction here, and that's where our verse is going to come is out of those verses. Let's take a look and see. It's in Doctrine and Covenants 56:14.
It says, Behold, thus saith the Lord unto my people, you have many things to do and to repent of. For behold, your sins have come up unto me and are not pardoned because you seek to counsel in your own ways. Now, did you catch the reason why their sins have not been pardoned?
This one stuck out to me like a bolt of lightning. And I was like, wow, Allen, welcome to you. He says there, your sins have come up to me and are not pardoned because you seek to counsel in your own ways.
My friends, Allen, here I am sitting here. Allen wants to do things his way. A lot.
And I am working, I'm trying, I'm praying, I'm asking, I'm reading, I'm studying. I want to do better doing things the Lord's way. And I am asking for that help.
And this one spoke out to me. I read this and I thought, oh my goodness, Allen, you're trying to repent and keep going, but stop trying to do things your way. And that triggered in me a reminder of the most recent conference talk, at least as of this recording, from President Russell M.
Nelson called "Confidence in the Presence of God." I want that confidence. And at the front end of that talk, I'll put a link in here for you, but at the front end of that talk, it says, when I speak of having confidence before God, I'm referring to having confidence in approaching God right now. And that's italicized in his talk.
He says, I am referring to praying with confidence that Heavenly Father hears us, that He understands our needs better than we do. I am referring to having confidence that He loves us more than we can comprehend, that He sends angels to be with us and with those we love. I am referring to having confidence that He yearns to help each of us reach our highest potential.
My friends, did you catch that in there? He understands our needs better than we do. He yearns to help each of us reach our highest potential.
Today, as I share the scripture with you, the thought that keeps coming back to me is, Allen, you can do better at letting go of counseling in your own ways. You can have confidence in approaching the Lord right now as you turn to Him and allow Him. Thank you for watching this video.
I hope I can take that lesson personally. I hope it is something that uplifts you and helps you personally as you go through. The Lord knows what's best for us.
Do we have the faith and confidence in Him to show us the way? That's all for today, my friends. Lift up your hearts and rejoice. Cleave unto the covenants you have made and together we will be savory salt.
