In Matthew 5:13, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth, a bold reminder that our lives are meant to carry His flavor, His truth, and His love to the world. Join me each day to explore one verse of scripture and one thought, striving to stay full of savor and truly live as savory salt. Hello, my friends.
Great to have you with me. Today, let's be anxiously engaged in a good cause and bring to pass much righteousness. We are continuing our readings inside of Doctrine and Covenants sections 49 through 50 this week, as well as Mosiah chapters 21 to 25.
Doctrine and Covenants 49 is interesting because we have not just new converts to the Church coming, but a specific group that had been taught specific teachings that the Lord is going to specifically say, these things are not true. And our verse for today is going to come out of Doctrine and Covenants 49. And it's interesting, the Lord gets to a point where about verse 23, He says, "Look, I don't want you to be deceived.
Behold, I will go before you and be your rearward, and I will be in your midst, and you shall not be confounded." Now, I love that because the Lord doesn't want us to be deceived or confounded. And He promises us here—these are those that are seeking for Him to come, right? We're watching for Him to come, that He will go before us, He'll be our rearward, and He'll be in our midst, and thus we won't be confounded.
And here's what I got thinking about inside of this one. It's a bit of a mirror activity, as you have all come to know inside of Savory Salt. And that's this.
If the Lord goes before us and He's leading us, where do you think He would take us? Now, when I say that, an interesting idea comes to mind: Did you think of a physical location? Did you think of spiritually where He would lead you?
Did you think of something specific in your life? That's a great question to think into and perhaps spend some time meditating on this week. If the Lord is leading you, if He's going before you, where is He taking you?
Now, I think you know where I'm going to head with the next question. If He is also our rearward, where are we taking Him? The Lord's gone before us, where would He take us?
He's also our rearward when we make decisions day to day. Where do we take the Lord with us? And thirdly, you know where this is coming now.
He says, "I will be in your midst." Well, if He is in our midst, where are we spending our time? This is such a great activity to consider. Some things that came to mind for me: If the Lord were leading me, I feel like He would encourage me to—I feel like He would encourage me to go to the temple.
I feel like He would encourage me to spend time with my family. He would encourage me to be at my Church meetings. This is the Lord leading me.
Now, if I'm leading Him, where do I want to take Him? Well, I want to take Him to the temple. I want to go to these spiritual places.
I want to be in a place where I can feel the presence of the Lord. If He is in our midst, where are we spending our time? These questions were questions that I dove into, and I want you to dive into as well today.
As you have an opportunity, spend some time thinking about the Lord as our leader, the Lord rearward following us, and also the Lord walking. Signs of the Lord's presence in the world are on display. There is nothing more important than God's presence in the world.
And again, where would He take us and where can we take Him? What a great lens to put on when it comes to considering the Lord being with us at all times, so that we can stand and not be confounded. That's all for today, my friends. Lift up your hearts and rejoice.
