In Matthew 5:13, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth, a bold reminder that our lives are meant to carry his flavor, his truth, and his love to the world. Join me each day to explore one verse of scripture and one thought, striving to stay full of savor and truly live as savory salt. Hello, my friends.
It is great to have you with me. Today, let's be anxiously engaged in a good cause and bring to pass much righteousness. My friends, I've got a question for you, and it's a question for me too.
How many times have you had one or two pieces of the puzzle and you were convinced you knew the whole story? That may give you a little bit of a pause today as we dive into our new readings for the week. We are reading Doctrine and Covenants sections 49 through 50 this week.
And on the Book of Mormon side of things, we're going to be going through Mosiah chapters 21 to 25. Lots of movement inside of there. Our scripture for today is going to focus on Doctrine and Covenants section 49, the beginning of it.
This is an interesting one because as the church continues to grow, and really I should say even grow today, the church comes at times Some of the ideas from their other religious beliefs. And here the Lord is trying to correct them and he gives us such an amazing, vital piece of information for all of us. It is in Doctrine and Covenants 49:2.
It says, Behold, I say unto you, that they desire to know the truth in part, but not all. For they are not right before me, and must needs repent. My friends, that's me and you sometimes.
Or maybe it's just me. I'll just speak for me. I won't call you out.
I'll just say it's me. But there are times where I desire to know the truth in part. I want to know, but then I get my part and then I'm convinced that I know the truth.
It's me. I got it all. I got it all figured out.
And I don't know if you've fallen in line there. I have. And the second part of this verse gives a touch to my heart and opens up and says, Allen, you must needs repent.
Now before you get feeling too hard about this on yourself, he's talking specifically about those that are hearing different aspects of the gospel but they refuse to hear other pieces of it And it reminded me of something that I think I saw it on, I don't know if it was social media, but it took me over to YouTube. And I'm actually going to put the link in here. Usually I only link to like gospel conference talks and stuff like that, but this is one from YouTube that is posted by the church.
So we're going to follow it. And it is from Elder Uchtdorf called "Discovering Truth." I love the message inside of it. You're going to recognize it if you've ever seen it.
Well, obviously you're going to recognize it if you've ever seen it before. Take some time. It's about an additional five minutes of your day.
Take some time to listen to that example and story because it is so poignant for each one of us. My friends, you and I have an opportunity to study the gospel at a level that has never been revealed before. And that's not like hyperbole.
That's reality. We have more scriptures than have ever been revealed on the earth. We have living prophets and apostles.
We have General Conference every six months. We have an opportunity to seek and have the Lord reveal truth in our lives It is a chance for you and I to get the whole story rather than just part of the story And there are others that only want part and leave the rest You and I know better. We can do this.
We can know that there are more pieces to the puzzle and as we do so our view of the puzzle becomes clearer, more expansive, and maybe even gets to the point where we can understand I love this verse. It is such a great reminder to me to realize that most of the time I've only got a few pieces of the puzzle and I could use more from the Lord. It's a chance to dig back into my scriptures, get back into prayer, seek revelation, go to the temple and continue to get revealed truth in my life.
I love it. That's all for today my friends. What a great start to the week.
Lift up your hearts and rejoice. Cleave unto the covenants you have made and together we will be savory salt.
