In Matthew 5:13, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth, a bold reminder that our lives are meant to carry his flavor, his truth, and his love to the world. Join me each day to explore one verse of scripture and one thought, striving to stay full of savor and truly live as savory salt. Hello, my friends, great to have you with me.
Today, let's be anxiously engaged in a good cause and bring to pass much righteousness. Well, did you do it? Have you started?
Did you begin your list of ways to see the light of Christ in your life? I have, and I am so excited for the week ahead. I've got my notepad in front of me at my desk, so wherever I'm at, I've got my notepad, and I can sit.
I'm actually choosing to handwrite it. It feels good already just to start to see the ways that I find the light of Christ in my life. If you don't know what I'm talking about, please listen to yesterday's episode.
But if you're jumping in today, welcome. We are reading this week Doctrine and Covenants section 45 as well as Mosiah chapters 12 through 16. Doctrine and Covenants 45 is interesting because the Lord is kind of telling us inside of here.
Remember, the people then were dealing with all sorts of struggles of falsehoods—of what true, what lie, what real in the Church, what not real in the Church. Not different from our day as we take a look at that in our lives, right? And the Savior kind of rehashes a conversation he has with his own disciples when he's alive on the earth.
And so that's inside kind of the late 20s, early 30s in the verses. And then we get to our verse for today, which is Doctrine and Covenants 45:35. And it says, "And I said unto them, Be not troubled.
For when all these things shall come to pass, ye may know that the promises which have been made unto you shall be fulfilled." Now, first of all, you got to kind of read the verses before to get into that troubled mindset of sorts. We all have experienced it, whether it's been in the middle of wars and rumors of wars, whether it's been in the middle of sicknesses across the globe, right? All of these things, these scourges that are coming around, earthquakes in divers places, that's the list of things that we get.
Yes, we're familiar with those from Christ talking to his disciples in Matthew and others, but it's a troubling thing. And I love this verse because the Lord says, "Be not troubled." And in fact, he helps us kind of get a light at the end of the tunnel. And that's part of our theme for this week.
And that is that the promises: "ye may know that the promises which have been made unto you shall be fulfilled." My friends, the time of struggle is a sign of the times of the coming of Jesus Christ. And it's an opportunity for you and for I not to encourage more destructions as a sign of the times by any means, rather to see them and not be troubled in our hearts and turn our faith to the Lord, knowing that each day of struggle and chaos is a day closer to the Lord coming on the earth for us. This has been very helpful for me.
I got to tell you, even just one day in my list, as I sat and wrote my list of where I saw the light of Christ in my life, I started to slow down. I started to think into my day through the lens of seeing the hand of Christ, the light of Christ in my life, and it gave me a greater perspective. I'm excited to keep doing that throughout this week, and I hope that you and I can experience this moment to be not troubled as we see the chaos unfolding around us, whether at a local, all the way down to personal and family life scale, or at a global scale with wars and...
The Lord encourages us, "Be not troubled." When these things come, you shall know that the day is coming. These promises of the Lord are coming, and they're here for those that turn to him and make covenants with him. I love it, and I'm so encouraged at the strength the Lord can provide for me in my times of trouble and yours as well.
That's all for today, my friends. Lift up your hearts and rejoice. Cleave unto the covenants we have made, and together we will be savory salt.
