In Matthew 5:13, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth, a bold reminder that our lives are meant to carry his flavor, his truth, and his love to the world. Join me each day to explore one verse of scripture and one thought, striving to stay full of savor and truly live as savory salt. Hello, my friends, great to have you with me.
Today let's be anxiously engaged in a good cause and bring to pass much righteousness. Today, a look into living and loving. I hope you're enjoying the week this week as we've spent a little bit of extra time inside of the Book of Mormon this week as we've been reading 1 Nephi chapters 9 through 12.
Today we're going to be taking a look at 1 Nephi chapter 11, and last year I only shared one verse out of the book. I read a lot of 1 Nephi chapter 11 in Savory Salt and I read it and I thought, my goodness, how much did I miss last year? Because there are a lot of verses that I wanted to dive into today.
One of them I just give kind of the honorable mention nod to that we're not going to dive into. But chapter 11, verse 1 is actually a continuation of yesterday when you read 1 Nephi 10:17. So maybe you put 10:17 and 11:1 together when it comes to asking the Lord to give you a new life.
We're going to be talking, asking the Lord and pondering upon the things that come in your life as you reflect on the visions that you're interested in having in your life. Today, though, we're going to shift gears into the middle of Nephi's vision as he's been being escorted here, being able to see everything that his dad has seen. And it's going to go, we're going to look at our verse today in 1 Nephi chapter 11, verse 25.
In verse 25 it says this: And it came to pass that I beheld that the rod of iron which my father had seen was the word of God, which led to the fountain of living waters, or to the tree of life, which waters are a representation of the love of God. And I also beheld that the tree of life was a representation of the love of God. Now, did you catch that inside of this one?
I love this verse because we typically, when we think about Lehi's Dream, we're typically focused on the tree of life and the fruit that comes from the tree of life and that being the representation of the love of God. And yet what we see in Nephi's vision here in his dream is we actually see that there are two representations here of the love of God. One is this fountain of living waters.
Those waters were a representation of the love of God, this fountain of living waters. And then he also beholds the tree of life, which is a representation of the love of God. I love that both of these representations of the love of God are attached to the concept of life and living.
And both of them, by the way, have footnotes that you can go down this and spend some time down this area. But I love that this is the fountain of living waters. We don't talk much about that in Lehi's Dream.
What is this fountain of living waters? And then the tree is not just referred to as an awesome white tree with white fruit. It's referred to as the tree of life.
My friends, when I reflected on that and I pondered on that myself, I thought about the times I have felt God's love in my life. And those times, I have an increase, a quickening of sorts in my life. I don't mean to say like better things happen in my life; I mean that my life feels healthier.
It feels clearer. My direction feels more unified with the Lord. I have a quickening in my life.
I have a lift, and my life becomes amplified through feeling the love of God. And that really got me thinking. These are all things that may increase our own lives as we're able to feel the love of God in them.
May you have an increase in your life through the living waters and the fruit of the tree of life as you are able to experience feeling the love of God that he has for all his children is my hope for you today. That's all for today, my friends. Lift up your hearts and rejoice. Cleave unto the covenants you have made and together we will be savory salt.
