In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.
Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me and know that I'm cheering for your every success. Welcome to day 362 on our 365 day journey through the Book of Mormon together.
Today, you're going to be reading Moroni chapter 8, verses 1 through 18. And inside of that, we're going to see Mormon teaching his son Moroni in another personal letter as he teaches his son. But I think it got such a beautiful inside to it.
And it's one of my favorite scriptures, especially the further I get into fatherhood. It is Moroni chapter 8, verse 3. And inside of here, we find out that this letter was written to Moroni from Mormon right about the time that Moroni was called to the ministry, so somewhere around the time that he begins his Church leadership.
And this is what Mormon has to say to his son Moroni. I am mindful of you always in my prayers, continually praying unto God the Father in the name of his Holy Child, Jesus, that he, through his infinite goodness and grace, will keep you through the endurance of faith on his name to the end. That is such a beautiful message for a parent to send to his child.
I can think specifically of times on my mission when I was facing quite difficult circumstances. And I had, I don't know that I had expressly written home about it, but probably whatever I had written was enough notification that I needed to have a little bit of a pick me up. And there, my dad didn't write very much on my mission to me.
He didn't write very often, but when he did write, it was powerful. And I can remember, I just came across one of his letters within the last month or so and sat down to read it. And it was one of those letters, and inside of it, he expressed his love to me.
And he also let me know how often he prayed for me and for the work that I was doing. The other example I think of is my incredible, amazing wife. She, every day as she and I pray, we include by name the names of our children.
And that has seemed to accentuate or amplify or magnify since our daughter left on her mission. We pray for our girls by name and we pray that goodness may be filled in their lives and that they will feel of the love that Jesus Christ has for them and that they will through his infinite goodness and grace be kept in the endurance of his name. My friends, whether you're parents, whether you're siblings, whether you are aunts, uncles, cousins, grandmas, grandpas, it doesn't matter.
I think there's something special when we pray for each other by name and ask the Lord for His help in the lives of our friends and family members. I can feel this one in verse 3 as Moroni shares it with us. This is a tender message that he receives from his dad.
And then he shares it with us after his dad is gone, which tells us how much it meant to his life as well. I hope that you and I can find great solace as we pray for others in our family and as we seek for them to be able to have the comfort and the love that comes through the power of Jesus Christ. That's all for today, my friends.
Remember that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass. Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be savory salt. I'll be here tomorrow and I hope you are too.
