In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.
Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me and know that I'm cheering for your every success. Welcome to day 353 on our 365 day journey through the Book of Mormon together.
We are coming down to the last days. Today you're going to be reading Ether chapter 12, verses 36-41. You'll finish those last couple of verses there, and then Chapter 13, verses 1 through 11, which is pretty cool as Moroni jumps back into Ether's story and gives you some of Ether's prophetic teachings about New Jerusalem and whatnot.
So, kind of some cool reading inside of there. We're going to wrap up our verse for today inside of Ether chapter 12. As we get right onto the tail end of this, this is Moroni wrapping up his teachings on faith.
And he actually says inside of here that, you know, he can wait for the day when you meet him and you realize that everything that he said was true, especially with his relationship with Christ, as we see in verse 39, that he has seen him face to face, which is a pretty cool experience there. And then we get to our verse for today in Ether chapter 12, verse 41. This is Moroni's invitation to you and I.
He says, And now I would commend you to seek this Jesus of whom the prophets and apostles have written, that the grace of God the Father, and also the Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost, which beareth record of them, may be and abide in you forever. Amen. This is Moroni's invitation.
You know, a lot of times we talk about Moroni's promise in Moroni chapter 10, verses 3 through 5. And yet here, Moroni's invitation could not get clearer. He commends us to seek this Jesus.
And the example that comes to mind for me actually is a very personal one and it deals specifically with savory salt. Last year, about this time, a little bit earlier than this time actually, I was awakened with the thoughts that I was going to start a daily podcast about the scriptures. And I thought that would be absolutely absurd, honestly.
And I shared that thought with my daughters. I said, 'Girls, I woke up the other night and I thought I should share a scripture every day and put it on a podcast.' And my daughter said, 'Well, Dad, if the Spirit told you to do it, you probably should do it.' And that's where I realized parental teachings come into play in your life, right? When they flip those teachings on to you.
And yet here's the interesting thing about savory salt. I thought when I was making savory salt at the beginning of the year, that I was making it maybe for my daughters so that they could see and hear me reading the scriptures and thinking my way through them. And then I thought, well, maybe it's for my Sunday School class.
I teach the teenagers and I thought this would be a great thing for the teenagers to listen to. And then I thought about my neighbors and my friends and I thought, well, maybe they'll want to listen in. And you've heard as we've gone through this that Savory Salt has now spanned pretty much all over the place.
It doesn't have a massive following, but it has people that have listened to it from pretty much every continent now. And yet, interestingly enough, about a month or so ago, I realized something. I realized that Savory Salt was for me.
It was the Lord's invitation to Allen to come into Christ. Now I wasn't having any sort of heavy faith challenges or struggles, but I absolutely could increase my relationship with Jesus Christ and have done so this year, as you and I have gone day to day inside of the Book of Mormon and sought for the inspiration that comes from seeking this Jesus Christ. I can tell you today and I join my thoughts and testimony with those of Moroni's that I know Christ lives, that I know he is real.
And I look forward to the day, although I can't say it like 39, like verse 39 does with Moroni where I've met him face to face. I could say in no less faith that Jesus Christ is real, and I look forward to the day where I face him face to face and see my brother and my Savior. He is real, my friends.
He is here to help you and help me. And I'm grateful for these scriptures and the Book of Mormon, and an opportunity to get to know him better. That's all for today, my friends.
Remember that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass. Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be savory salt. I'll be here tomorrow, and I hope you are too.
