In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.
Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from, thank you for joining me and know that I'm cheering for your every success. Today, some thoughts worth capturing. Welcome to day 340 on our 365 day journey through the Book of Mormon together.
Today, you're going to be reading Ether chapter 3, verses 7 through 22. Now today a particularly special part of the reading here in Ether because we actually get a recording of the brother of Jared having a very, shall we say, temple-worthy experience here. This is very similar wording and experiences to those that we experience inside the temple.
The brother of Jared experienced this in a very real setting here as he not only sees the finger of the Lord but is taken into the presence of the Lord inside of the reading here. I love the story part of it, but I also love what it means for you and me as we read the story and see the brother of Jared in ourselves here. Let's take a look at the verse for today and see what we mean by that.
Our verse for today comes in Ether chapter 3 verse 9. This is where the brother of Jared has just seen the finger of the Lord here. And verse 9 says, And the Lord said unto him, Because of thy faith thou hast seen that I shall take upon me flesh and blood, and never has man come before me with such exceeding faith as thou hast.
For were it not so, ye could not have seen my finger. And what I like to encourage you to do today after listening to this Savory Salt episode, I'd like you to get a journal or just a piece of paper or even just sit in silence for a moment and start with this phrase: "Because of thy faith thou hast seen..." And then I'd love for you to record the things that you've seen. Names of the people that come into your life that you have seen and experienced because of the faith that you've shared with the Lord.
For example, not speaking specifically, but I'll speak in some general terms of some of the lists that I've created myself. Because of my faith, I've seen priesthood power heal the sick. Because of my faith, I've seen family members helped from both sides of the veil.
Because of my faith, I've seen the ability to perform labors well beyond physical limits. Because of my faith, I've seen a magnification of talents and skills in different areas of my life and others. Now this is just a beginning of my list of the time that I've spent here to consider this, but I'd love to give you the time to do the same thing.
Think into what has come as a result of the faith that you shared. Now this list doesn't have to equal that of the brother of Jared. I'm not asking you to sit down and say, "Because of thy faith thou hast seen the Lord Jesus Christ." That's not the idea of this activity at all.
Rather, the idea of this activity is to acknowledge that you are seeing things in your life because of the faith you have. Faith bears fruit and you and I should take an opportunity to acknowledge the fruit that it bears and then share the gratitude that we have to the Lord for allowing us to have that fruit in our lives. That's all for today my friends.
Remember that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass. Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be savory salt. I'll be here tomorrow and I hope you are too.
