In Matthew 5.13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.
Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me and know that I'm cheering for your every success. Welcome to day 305 on our 365 day journey through the Book of Mormon together.
We've got 60 days left. That's amazing. Well done on your readings today.
You're going to be reading 3rd Nephi chapter 17 verses 21 to 25. Some very emotional And you're going to continue reading 3rd Nephi chapter 18 verses 1 through 16 as the Lord shifts into the sacrament and what that means for those that partake of it. Now I want to just do a special note inside of verses 24 and 25 of 3rd Nephi 17 and this one I here with you today to talk about the story of the Lord testimony to the angels And I testify of that reality to you.
Our verse for today comes however from 3rd Nephi chapter 18 verse 12 and this is right after the Lord has done, he's broken bread with those that are in attendance and then he's had them drink wine with those that are in attendance and he's talked about what the sacrament is and the commandment that it is to take it. And in verse 12 it says, And I give unto you a commandment, that ye shall do these things, meaning what he had just done. And if ye shall always do these things, blessed are ye, for ye are built upon my rock.
My friends, taking the sacrament is not just something we do on Sundays, it's a commandment from the Lord. And we learn inside these verses that not only is it a commandment from the Lord but it also us telling Heavenly Father that we believe in remembering the name of Jesus Christ and taking him upon ourselves The blessing then comes as it says inside the sacrament prayers that we can always have his spirit to be with us But I love inside this verse that on that comes a building on the rock. We all know the rock and the sand story, the rocky foundation, the sandy foundation.
But I love that doing this on a regular basis, The Bible says, taking the sacrament becomes a building for us on the rock of Jesus Christ. That is empowering and I can testify to you that our regular attendance and partaking of the sacrament can absolutely help us build on the rock of Jesus Christ. I have found that a regular attendance inside of sacrament meeting has become more to me As I have focused on that sacred ordinance, as I have taken time to ponder what it means for me to take upon myself the name of Jesus Christ in the weeks ahead of me.
Each Sunday as I sit down, I think about my week in the past. I think about my week in the future, and it's given me an opportunity to recenter my life on Jesus Christ. I can remember on my mission we used to draw a single line on a piece of paper in Mongolia And we used to say you know what during the week and we kind of draw a squiggly line over it We say during the week sometimes we make decisions that get us off of the narrow the straight and narrow path And we get kind of wiggly and we get a little bit off But you know what when we come to church on Sundays and we partake of the sacrament and we used to draw wherever our pen was off the line we used to draw a line straight back onto the straight and narrow path and say by partaking of the sacrament we back on the path And that's how I continue to feel about the sacrament in my life.
I hope that you take an opportunity to not just take the bread and the water today as a regular occurrence in your life, but to ponder on what it means to take them and to build upon the rock of Jesus Christ. That's all for today, my friends. Remember that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass.
Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be savory salt. I'll be here tomorrow and I hope you are too.
