In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.

Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me and know that I'm cheering for your every success. Without Christ, there is no light.

Welcome to day 292 on our 365-day journey through the Book of Mormon together. Today we're going to be reading 3 Nephi chapter 8 verses 19 through 25. You will finish that chapter and 3 Nephi chapter 9 verses 1 through 9.

And in chapter 9 we're going to hear the voice of the Lord himself as he explains the level of destruction that has happened for these people in the Book of Mormon. And it is severe. It's several verses long inside of this fulfillment of prophecy, but we're going to look specifically at 3 Nephi chapter 8 verse 22. "And there was not any light seen, neither fire, nor glimmer, neither the sun, nor the moon, nor the stars, for so great were the mists of darkness which were upon the face of the land." Now this fulfillment is very clearly a fulfillment of Samuel talking about what the Nephites would experience and the Lamanites after the death of Jesus Christ.

We find out that this lasts for roughly three hours or the storms last for roughly three hours and then the darkness lasts for about three days, which is full of symbolism there. But the interesting thing I want to pull out of this one, as we talked earlier in Savory Salt with Samuel the Lamanite about Jesus Christ being light. And then we talked a little bit about this, but now we see whether in symbolism or in actual literal sense, without Christ, there is no light.

And I've thought about this for our day. And I think it really interesting to watch in our day because I believe that we are experiencing the brightest light from Christ of any age. When you think about where you can find messages on Jesus Christ, videos on Jesus Christ, prophets testifying of Jesus Christ.

The world is getting so small with the ability to have internet access. And those messages can go everywhere. And there's hardly a place on earth left.

The light of the gospel and the light of Jesus Christ can be everywhere. The scriptures might even say the four corners of the earth. And then in this interesting fashion today, we also are experiencing possibly the darkest of nights at the very same time.

Because in everyone's hand is the capacity to bring that incredible light into others. Will you choose the light of Jesus Christ or will you allow the darkness—darkness where no light can enter? I believe the answer for you and I is no.

We embrace Jesus Christ as the light of our lives and as we do so, our light shines brighter for others around us as well. Thank you for being a light in my life. Whether I know you directly or not, you are a light in my life and I thank you for holding that testimony and continuing to build your own testimony as we go forward day by day inside the Book of Mormon.

That's all for today, my friends. Remember that "By small and simple things are great things brought to pass." Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be savory salt. I'll be here tomorrow, and I hope you are too.
