Day 289 Be Inspired: Preach and Testify Boldly
Show Notes
Join Allen Roberds for a daily scripture reflection on 3 Nephi 6:15-30 and 3 Nephi 7:1-3, exploring the rapid turn to wickedness after spiritual experiences as a warning for our time. This episode highlights 3 Nephi 6:20, calling all to be inspired from heaven and sent forth to preach and testify boldly of Jesus Christ.
Key Points
- Discover how quickly people can turn to sin and wickedness, even after divine intervention, as seen in 3 Nephi 6.
- Understand the Book of Mormon's relevance as a story for our future, offering crucial warnings for modern society.
- Learn to be inspired from heaven and sent forth, standing among the people to preach and testify boldly like ancient prophets and modern missionaries.
- Reflect on the vital role of missionaries in gathering Israel and the personal responsibility to share one's testimony.
- Consider why people in ancient times, and perhaps today, react with anger rather than repentance to spiritual truths being preached.
My friends, go forward, be inspired, and preach and testify boldly.

In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.
Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me and know that I'm cheering for your every success. Today, it's Think a Missionary Day.
That's right. It's been a while since we did that, but find a missionary either around you that you can go high five, find a sister, find an elder, thank them for their service, send them an email, send them a text message. I don't care what it is.
Thank a missionary. Welcome today day 289 on our 365 day journey through the Book of Mormon together. Today you're going to be reading 3 Nephi chapter 6, verses 15 through 30, and beginning 3 Nephi chapter 7 by reading verses 1 through 3.
Now this is so interesting, the second half of 3 Nephi chapter 6, because it absolutely blows my mind how quickly the people turned to sin and wickedness after they have had such a spiritual experience being saved by the hand of the Lord. And it is certainly a warning for us in our day, as, remember, the Book of Mormon is a story about the future as much as it's a story about the past. So, please pay attention to these verses as you read through them.
And then we get to one of my favorite verses inside of all of this wickedness and sin and struggle. We get in 3 Nephi chapter 6, verse 20. It says, "All these believe and try no坐es should lie." The message is that Jesus Christ will come again, that he lives, and that his Second Coming is upon us.
I love this verse because I think about at the beginning of it, "there began to be men inspired from heaven and sent forth." And look, that's a term from the Book of Mormon time, but today there are men and women inspired to go forth. And the people that I think about going forth and standing among the people and preaching and testifying boldly are missionaries. And also people like me, as we do this podcast, right?
I've talked about this in "Savory Salt," but I think it's so awesome that this podcast can go across the world and people can tune in from anywhere around the world. And I can stand on the corner of my house and say, "Hey, everybody, I know Jesus Christ is real, and I know his Atonement is real, and I know his Resurrection is real." And I can bear testimony of that. You can do it too.
I want you to consider what it may be in your life to be inspired from heaven and sent forth standing among the people to preach and testify boldly. Thank your elder missionaries and your sister missionaries today for their service and for going forward boldly. They play a crucial role in gathering Israel and they are out there on a daily basis.
I find it interesting, one last quick note, as you read through the reaction of the people at this time. Their reaction was not actually repentance in general acceptance. The reaction was anger.
They didn't want to be preached to. And that may be very telling as we look at our own time and day today. My friends, go forward, be inspired, and preach and testify boldly.
As you do so, the words of the Spirit will come into your life and your testimony will be strengthened and carried into the hearts of those you are around. That is a promise I can give you, and I am excited to go forward and continue to testify daily of the living Jesus Christ, the living restored Gospel. It is real and I am excited to be part of it as it comes to a day when his Second Coming is upon us.
That's all for today, my friends. Remember that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass. Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be savory salt. I'll be here tomorrow and I hope you are too.
