Show Notes

Allen Roberds reflects on Alma 46:36, where Captain Moroni famously hoisted the Title of Liberty upon every tower. This episode emphasizes the powerful importance of identifying and visibly 'hoisting' your personal 'why' or purpose, drawing strength from it to navigate challenges. Discover how planting your core motivations can lead to greater savor in your life.

Key Points

  • Captain Moroni's act of hoisting the Title of Liberty on every Nephite tower served as a constant, visible reminder of their cause and purpose.
  • Listeners are encouraged to actively identify their personal 'why' – their core motivation and purpose – and make it visible in their daily lives.
  • Planting one's 'why' deeply provides a powerful reservoir of strength and resilience to draw upon during difficult times and struggles.
  • The podcast aims to be a 'power podcast' that encourages active reflection and application of scriptural principles, rather that passive listening.
  • Embracing and remembering one's purpose, much like the Nephites with the Title of Liberty, can lead to a more savory and fulfilling life.

Write down why you do what you do. Put it where you see it. Put it on every tower in your house, in all the lands that you go about. And you will see and find that that why can be planted inside of you, and in all the times that you need it—those times when you're down and you're struggling...

In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.

Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me and know that I'm cheering for your every success. My friends, it's not very often that we have kind of a repeated message coming across Savory Salt, but today, well, it's just one of those days.

We're going to repeat a message. Welcome to day 227 on our 365-day journey through the Book of Mormon together. Today, you're going to be reading Alma chapter.

Did you do any of that? Because, my friends, this is not a passive podcast. Savory Salt is about becoming a little more savory.

I want this to be a power podcast, not a passive podcast. So if you haven't done it, it's okay. You are.

If you are forgiven, you have another chance. Today we're going to look at Alma 46:36. And let's take a look at what happens here with this title of liberty and what Moroni does with it.

It says, "And it came to pass also, that he caused the title of liberty to be hoisted upon every tower which was in all the land which was possessed by the Nephites." And thus Moroni planted the standard of liberty among the Nephites. Did you hear that? Moroni planted the standard of liberty among the Nephites.

Where did he put the standard? Where does this title of liberty go? This reminder of who and what they're fighting for?

It went on every tower. There's an "all" there. Every tower which was in all the land.

There's another all-inclusive there. Possessed by the Nephites. Moroni is taking no chances here, my friends.

He wants everyone to see, to regularly have inside of them, planted, literally planted inside of them, the reminder of why they're doing what they're doing when it comes to defending their lands. I think that yesterday, if perhaps you enjoyed the podcast episode, but enjoyed it with a little bit of a passive listener effect, then perhaps today is a little pinprick of sorts to turn this podcast into a power podcast in your life. Write down why you do what you do.

Put it where you see it. Put it on every tower in your house, in all the lands that you go about. And you will see and find that that why can be planted inside of you, and in all the times that you need it—those times when you're down and you're struggling, those times where it seems like you're losing the war, as Captain Moroni and his Nephites may have times in their battles where they feel like they're not going to come out on top.

They dig into that plant and they have inside of them a new reservoir to draw from within. That is powerful, my friends, and that was worth two consecutive days of talking about the same thing. It's got me all excited and fired up, and I hope it's got you excited and fired up as well.

That's all for today, my friends. Remember that "by small and simple things are great things brought to pass." Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be savory salt. I'll be here tomorrow, and I hope you are too.
