In Matthew 5.13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.
Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me. I know that I'm cheering for your every success.
Welcome to day 216 on our 365 day journey through the Book of Mormon together. Today, we're going to be reading Alma chapter 40 verses 14 through 26. You will finish that chapter.
You know, something I love about this chapter is we're going to continue seeing Alma teach his son about the plan of salvation. All right welcome to the Bible Revealed podcast I Jeffrey R Holland and see what it can be for each of us in our lives It's not like it's just suddenly upon us necessarily. There seems to be some wrestling with the spirit to figure that out and I love that context.
Today's verse is going to take us inside of that view of resurrection a little bit. We're going to be in Alma chapter 40 verse 23 and this is what it says. It says, The soul shall be restored to the body, and the body to the soul.
Yea, and every limb and joint shall be restored to its body. Yea, even a hair of the head shall not be lost, but all things shall be restored to their proper and perfect frame. I like this verse because first of all, it teaches a very important doctrinal foundation for us as members of the church.
And that is that there's two parts of us. There's our physical bodies. And then there is, as Alma calls it, our soul.
And these, one is that eternal being that is us. And the other is that physical being that has its limitations and experiences physical pain and ultimately death at the end of our lives. And so this is such a clear piece of doctrinal evidence here for me that says look the soul and the body at some point are going to reunite And when they do so they going to be all restored to their proper and perfect frame And it lets me know of all the different beliefs out there of what happens after death.
This is one that I guess just makes sense to me, but the spirit speaks to me and I feel good that my soul and my body are going to be reunited. I'm not going to drop into a pool of other souls and come out somewhere else. I'm not going to let this body pass on and go into another body.
And I know that there's other belief systems of reincarnation or other versions of that. But for me and for what this says to me, based on Alma's description here, there is a time where my soul, my intelligence, the being that I was before this life, and the being that I am now, I'm going to be able to The being that is inside my body during this life is going to be the same being that reunites with this body. And I think about friends and family members that have had physical challenges, that have had enduring pains or sicknesses, that have faced lifelong challenges, whether it be lifelong David P.
R. R R R R R R R R R R R I think about the challenges of the way their body moves or physical limitations or lifelong diseases or struggles I think about those people that I know personally and this verse gives me hope that those people are going to be restored to a proper and perfect frame And that even the challenges that I face or the physical pains that I have, that one day inside of a resurrection day, I'll be able to stand forward with my soul and my body reunited and be able to live that life in a proper and perfect frame. That's a beautiful image for me, especially for the loved ones that I know that have faced challenges in their lives due to physical limitations.
That's all for today my friends. Remember that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass. Keep it small, keep it simple and always seek to be savory salt. I'll be here tomorrow and I hope you are too.
