In Matthew 5.13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.
Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me and know that I'm cheering for your every success. My friends, the joy of missionary work, the blessings of missionary work are not reserved to missionaries alone.
That is something I want to dive into today. Welcome to day 195 on our 365 day journey through the book of Mormon. We're going to be reading today Alma chapter 28 verses 9 through 14 and Alma chapter 29 verses 1 through 11.
And they really quite an interesting feeling shift between this reading today Alma 28 basically wraps up Ammon and his and then the sons of Mosiah missionary experiences. And then the second half of that chapter kind of opens the door to what we typically refer to, I guess a little bit, I guess I've always referred to them as the kind of the war chapters of Alma as we get into the second half of the book And then we get into Alma 29 and this is interesting. This front half here is Alma's soliloquy, right?
It's his kind of moment of just reflecting on what's happened through his missionary work and his missionary experiences. And that's where our verse for today comes. He has one desire and that desire is to share the gospel and proclaim repentance.
He even says in here he wish he could be an angel with a trump, right? Like out trumpeting and saying, hey, world, repent, right? Bringing others to Jesus Christ And then we get the verse for today And it awesome Such a great perspective of the joy that comes as we fulfill our obligation and our responsibility to be missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Saints Whether you're specifically called as such or you're a member of the church and you're simply living your life and trying to help others see the light of Christ as well.
I love it. Let's read it together. Alma chapter 29, verse 10.
And behold, when I see many of my brethren truly penitent, and coming to the Lord their God, then is my soul filled with joy. Then do I remember what the Lord has done for me, yea, even that he hath heard my prayer. Yea, then do I remember his merciful arm which he extended towards me.
I love that Alma sees through his missionary work and through the conversion of his friends, his own blessings of the atonement of Jesus Christ. What a beautiful blessing and give back through missionary work. He goes out and he sees others conversion to the gospel and then he sees the light and the joy in their lives and it reminds him of how much light and joy he has in his life This is such a cool way that the Lord has designed for us to continually be blessed by helping others be blessed What a cool perpetual circle of blessing.
I know I've said blessing a lot in this episode, but that's what sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ is. It's a blessing to those receiving it and it's a blessing to those who share it. My friends, I hope you share the gospel of Jesus Christ.
I hope you feel when you share it, the joy and the light come into your life as well. That's all for today my friends. Remember that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass.
Keep it small, keep it simple and always seek to be savory salt. I'll be here tomorrow and I hope you are too.
