In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.
Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me and know that I'm cheering for your every success and welcome to day 159 on our 365-day journey through the Book of Mormon together. Wow.
We are going to finish up Alma 7 today by reading Alma 7:16–27. And then you're also going to dive in as Alma goes to another land. And then we get to Alma 7, and Alma bears testimony.
He still bears testimony, but he is bearing testimony to those that are. And I'm just going to take a moment to kind of give you a little bit of reason to. The people of Gideon.
And this is what I want to share with you today. It says, And now may the peace of God rest upon you, and upon your houses and lands, and upon your flocks and herds, and all that you possess, your women and your children, according to your faith and good works from this time forth and forever. And thus I have spoken.
Amen. It is a beautiful ending to a testimony that is all of Alma 7. And it's also a reminder to us of the peace that comes from keeping the commandments of God.
I think this is interesting because we don't get insight to what's happening in the daily lives of the people of Gideon. I'm sure there were struggles. I'm sure there were people that were having good times and people were having bad times.
But inside of all of that, they were seeking to be righteous people and seeking to practice keeping the commandments of God. And as such, the blessing that Alma leaves them is the blessing of the peace of God. My friends, the peace of God comes in our lives not based on whether our lives are hectic or crazy or calm.
The peace of God comes in our lives as we seek to align our will with that of the Father. And as we find righteousness in our lives through daily repentance and through living the principles of the gospel, we too can have that peace rest upon us, upon our houses, our lands, our flocks, our herds, our women, our children. I love the list here that comes.
Sometimes in my life I need Alma 5, and sometimes in my life I need Alma 7. It's one of the things I love about reading the way that Alma preaches the gospel. Because he says what is needed to the people that need to hear it.
And really, isn't that what prophets do? We talked about that yesterday a little bit with President Nelson's message. Hopefully you had an opportunity to read into that.
May the peace of God rest upon you and your family as you continue to live in righteousness. That too is my prayer for you and it's my prayer for me and my family as well. That's all for today, my friends.
Remember that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass. Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be savory salt. I'll be here tomorrow, and I hope you are too.
