Show Notes

Join Allen Roberds for a daily scripture reflection on Alma 7:7, exploring how Alma's testimony of Christ's first coming mirrors our preparation for the Savior's Second Coming. This episode connects ancient scripture to modern prophecy from President Russell M. Nelson, emphasizing the importance of getting ready for Christ's glorious return.

Key Points

  • Alma shifts his prophetic focus to the people of Gideon, testifying purely of Jesus Christ's coming.
  • Alma 7:7 highlights the coming of Jesus Christ as the single most important future event for Alma's people.
  • The episode draws a parallel between the importance of Christ's first coming for Alma's day and the Second Coming for our modern era.
  • President Russell M. Nelson's article, 'The Future of the Church: Preparing the World for the Savior's Second Coming,' is referenced for its profound insights into future events.
  • Specific prophecies about the Savior's return, including His coming to Jerusalem and His reign as King of Kings, are shared from President Nelson's teachings.

My friends, I don't have anything more to add to that except sign me up. That gets me so excited for the future and the most important thing we can focus on, the Second Coming of the Savior Jesus Christ.

In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.

Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me and know that I'm cheering for your every success. Welcome to day 158 on our 365-day journey through the Book of Mormon together.

Today we move into Alma chapter 7 by reading verses 1 through 15. And Alma's going to shift gears just a little bit here. It seems that the people of Zarahemla needed some pretty serious repenting and calling.

All to repentance from Alma as he shifts over to the people and the Church in Gideon. They seem to be a little bit more open and receptive to the message. And so he in turn goes and kind of shares a little bit more of a pure testimony of Christ or just speaks directly to the life of Christ.

And that's what we get inside of our opening verses here in Alma chapter seven. Let's look at Alma 7:7 today and see what we can pull from this. I love this one and I'm going to connect it to one of my favorite things I heard from President Nelson, I think.

So let's look at Alma 7:7 together. And this is Alma preaching about the coming of Jesus Christ. It says: "For behold, I say unto you, there be many things to come.

And behold, there is one thing which is of more importance than they all. For behold, the time is not far distant that the Redeemer liveth and cometh among his people." I got thinking about this and for Alma the most important thing in the future, right, of more importance than they all, was the coming of Jesus Christ to the earth. And he's going to bear testimony of that in the verses that we're going to read today.

So you're going to see that testimony as he teaches very clearly about what it's going to look like in Christ's time and what Christ is going to do when he comes to the earth. The interesting thing there that I kind of connected was if the Book of Mormon is written for our day, then it's going to be the coming of Jesus Christ to the earth. And if the Book of Mormon is written for our day, then it's going to be the coming of Jesus Christ to the earth.

If the most important future event is the first time coming of Jesus Christ, then perhaps the most important event we should be focused on is the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. And that led me then to remember, it kind of actually got overshadowed, but President Nelson wrote an article in the Ensign in April of 2020. In April of 2020, kind of some crazy things were happening in the world.

There was this new pandemic going on and COVID all over and we're trying to figure out what in the world was going on. And so this message from President Nelson, it was never, to my knowledge, shared like over a pulpit or over a speaker. It was the article inside of the Ensign celebrating the commemoration of 200 years of the Church.

And yet it called "The Future of the Church: Preparing the World for the Savior's Second Coming." And it is our living prophet talking very clearly about things of the future of the Church and what it looks like to prepare for the Second Coming. And I want to share a segment in here that he shares about the Second Coming specifically. These are directly from the words here.

I'll send a link inside the podcast episode so that you can go and read this yourself. I learned a lot inside of this and there's a lot of great scriptural references to dig into with kind of this unspoken, untalked about wording from President Nelson. It says: "The Lord will return to the land that he made holy by his mission, mortality.

In triumph, He will come again to Jerusalem in royal robes of red to symbolize His blood which oozed from every pore. He shall return to the holy city. There and elsewhere the glory of the Lord shall be revealed and all flesh shall see it together.

His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace. He will govern from two world capitals. Water will issue from under the temple.

Waters of the Dead Sea will be healed. In that day He will bear new titles and be surrounded by special saints. He will be known as the Lord of Lords and King of Kings, and they that will be with Him will be those who are called and chosen and faithful to their trust here in mortality.

Then he shall reign forever and ever. The earth will be returned to its paradisiacal state and be made new. There will be a new heaven and a new earth.

It is our charge, it is our privilege to help prepare the world for that day." My friends, I don't have anything more to add to that except sign me up. That gets me so excited for the future and the most important thing we can focus on, the Second Coming of the Savior Jesus Christ. That's all for today my friends.

Remember that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass. Keep it small, keep it simple and always seek to be savory salt. I'll be here tomorrow and I hope you are too.
