Day 81 More Scripture and the Lost Tribes' Records
Show Notes
Allen Roberds reflects on 2 Nephi 29:9-14 and 2 Nephi 30:1-6, exploring the Book of Mormon prophecy that Jews, Nephites, and the lost tribes of Israel will each receive the sacred records of the others. This episode delves into the exciting prospect of additional scriptures coming forth and challenges listeners to fully embrace their current scriptures while preparing for future divine revelations.
Key Points
- The Book of Mormon prophesies a future time when Jews, Nephites, and the lost tribes of Israel will share and receive each other's sacred written words.
- This prophecy implies the coming forth of 'more scripture' beyond the Bible and the Book of Mormon, specifically from the lost tribes.
- Parley P. Pratt's discourse clarifies that these converging testimonies will unite God's people and spread across the earth 'as with a flood'.
- Listeners are encouraged to actively engage with their current scriptures and foster an excitement and readiness for additional divine records as they become available.
I hope that you get excited for more scripture in your life rather than see the scriptures as something I need to do.

In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.
Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me and know that I'm cheering for your every success. Welcome to day 81 on our 365-day journey through the Book of Mormon.
Today, we're going to have some more fun readings inside of 2 Nephi chapter 29. We're going to. Let's get started.
Nephi's got a little bit more to say there and we're going to look at verse 13 today to kind of see what Nephi sees coming our way. And it's a little bit exciting for me because it's new stuff in terms of what's coming our way. Let's take a look at it.
Verse 13 today. It says, "And it shall come to pass that the Jews shall have the words of the Nephites, and the Nephites shall have the words of the Jews, and the Nephites and the Jews shall have the words of the lost tribes of Israel, and the lost tribes of Israel shall have the words of the Nephites and the Jews." Now, there's a lot of people here getting a lot of words from a lot of different people. But this gets exciting for me, because if I'm reading this correctly, we tend to be able to understand that the words that are coming from the Jews tend to be the original testaments, right?
The Old and the New Testaments. And then the words of the Nephites as we understand them are, you know, probably the words of the Book of Mormon here. But then we get this, you know, both sides are going to have those words.
But then we get another insight here from Nephi that says the words of the lost tribes of Israel are going to be available to the Nephites and to the Jews and that they're going to get the Book of Mormon and the Bible. And so that opens up all sorts of interesting perspectives in terms of more scripture that's coming down the pipe for us. We're going to have other records that are going to say, "Hey, we've seen the Lord.
The Lord has been in our lives and here are our records that we have." And I wanted to dig into this a little bit further and just kind of see if I was understanding that correctly. And I came across an old discourse from Parley P. Pratt.
Now, he's a fired-up, you know, awesome missionary from the early early days of the Church. And he gave a discourse in which this is what he said about these verses. And I thought it was kind of interesting.
He says it a little bit clearer than Nephi. He says, "We shall eventually have the history of the ten tribes in the north. The Bible is the birth of the Nephites in America and of the Jews in Jerusalem.
And their written testimony will become one, and their words will become one. And the people of God will be gathered under testimony into one body. And the testimony of the Latter-day Saints will become one with that of the former-day Saints.
And the testimonies of those shall sweep the earth as with a flood, and by the voice of men and angels, and eventually by the great sound of a trumpet, and none shall escape." I love that because I see the way that the Book of Mormon is spreading across the earth. And I think, wow, what would even more scripture be able to do there? So today as you're considering your path on being a little bit more savory salt, maybe it's worth checking in and just say, 'Hey,' Am I in a position to take advantage of the scriptures that I currently have in my life?
If not, what can I do to take better advantage of those in my life? And am I even going to recognize the other scriptures that are going to become available as they come out? Because there are going to be more coming.
There are more records coming. And wow, what incredible testimonies are going to be on those records! That gets me excited.
I hope that you get excited for more scripture in your life rather than see the scriptures as something I need to do. I've got to put it on the checklist. I hope that you're finding great insights and I hope that the Spirit is speaking to you personally as you dive in this journey with me through the Book of Mormon on this 365-day journey.
Thank you for joining me with it. I've had a lot of fun doing this and I hope you're enjoying it as well. That's all for today, my friends.
Remember that "by small and simple things are great things brought to pass." Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be savory salt. I'll be here tomorrow. I hope you are too.
