In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.
Hello, my friends and family. Wherever you're listening from, thank you for joining me and know that I am cheering for your every success. Welcome to day 72 on our 365-day journey through the Book of Mormon together.
Yesterday we were talking about Nephi's desire to speak plainly and you had a little bit of a challenge. So if you didn't listen to day 71, go back and take that challenge on. See what you find inside of Nephi's plainness when it comes to testifying of Jesus Christ.
Now, if you did take the challenge on, I hope you spent some time inside of chapters 25 and 26, because Nephi's plainness here is powerful. Today, reading, you're going to read from 2 Nephi 25:9. Our verse today is going to speak directly into this plainness that Nephi says he loves to talk about.
He loves to talk plainly about Jesus Christ. Now remember, this is, you know, I don't know, 550, 600 years before Christ came to earth, right? So this is Nephi prophesying of the days of Jesus Christ.
And he says this: our verse for the day comes from verse 13. So chapter 25, verse 13 is our verse for the day. Let's read it and then let's break it down a little bit here.
Verse 13 says, Behold, they will crucify him, and after he is laid in a sepulcher for the space of three days, he shall rise from the dead with healing in his wings. And all those who shall believe on his name shall be saved in the kingdom of God. Wherefore, my soul delighteth to prophesy concerning him, for I have seen his day, and my heart doth magnify his holy name.
Now, this is awesome! How does Nephi get any clearer than that when it comes to testifying of Jesus Christ? He is not prophesying here in generalities.
He is being very specific about the life of Jesus Christ as we know it through scripture. He talks about his crucifixion. He talks about his time in the sepulcher for three days, and then coming, rising from the dead.
And I love it, the healing in his wings. So empowering. Now, the interesting thought that came to me with this one specifically was: If this is roughly, you know, 550 or so, 600 years before Christ came to the earth, what in the world was happening for us 600 years ago?
And I think about the possibility of even guessing what 600 years in the future looks like for us. And really, I've kind of settled on there's no other way to get there but through prophecy. You know, recently, my family and I went down and we were doing some hiking down in the Southeast Utah area, in Moab and Arches and Canyonlands.
Through that adventure, we were able to see some petroglyphs, you know, rock art writings on the rock. And some of those were dated right around 1400 AD. That's roughly 600 years ago from here, give or take a little bit.
And I thought, my goodness, 600 years ago, people were writing on rock. So, let's get started. That: What was happening 600 years ago?
Could they have even fathomed what we're doing? In fact, what we're doing with this podcast here, that I'm sitting here recording my voice and you're listening to it on whatever device you're listening to—these things happen through the spirit of prophecy, and Nephi's testimony of Christ here is as plain as it gets. I'm so grateful for Nephi's testimony of Jesus Christ.
It helps my testimony of Jesus Christ grow, and I hope it helps yours grow as well. That's all for today, my friends. Remember that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass.
Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be savory salt. I'll be here tomorrow. I hope you are too.
