Show Notes

In Day 50 of the Savory Salt podcast, Allen Roberds reflects on 2 Nephi 7:1 and its powerful message about divine covenants. He explores the profound truth that the Lord never breaks His promises, even when humans, through their iniquities, may stray. This reflection encourages listeners to examine their own commitment to covenant relationships with God.

Key Points

  • 2 Nephi 7:1, framed by the imagery of marriage and divorce, teaches that the Lord is always faithful to His covenants.
  • The scripture emphasizes that it is humanity, through sin and transgression, that steps away from the covenant relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Listeners are encouraged to recognize that during challenging times, the Lord remains present, and it is our responsibility to take steps to uphold our part of the divine contract.
  • Maintaining a strong covenant relationship involves actively living the commandments, serving others, and resisting bitterness and anger.
  • Understanding God's unwavering faithfulness empowers individuals to strengthen their connection with Him, knowing He will never be the one to pull away.

I love this verse because it helps me remember that no matter what, no matter what circumstances I'm facing in my life, the Lord is there. It's me that needs to continue to take the steps to keep my part of the contract.

In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.

Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me and know that I am cheering for your every success. Welcome to day 50 on our 365 day journey in reading the Book of Mormon.

It's going to be kind of interesting because the comparison chapter we're going to look at today is actually Isaiah 50. So welcome to 50 for 50 today. You're following along on this 365 day journey.

You're going to read 2 Nephi 6, verses 13-18. Finish that chapter. And then you're going to read, oh my goodness, can you handle it?

All of 2 Nephi 7, which is a whopping 11 verses! You can do that. Yesterday was a light day.

Today you can dig into it a little bit. And you might be sitting here saying, oh my goodness, are we going to get into the Isaiah chapters. It's all right.

Have no fear. If you remember the way that we framed the Isaiah chapters from Nephi's own words, go back to day 34 on Savory Salt. What I'll do is I'll throw a link on here as well so that this episode has a link to it, at least on the Apple podcast side.

But go back to day 34, listen again, and remember the framing that we're going to look at the Isaiah chapters. We're going to try and see what it means to better have a relationship with Jesus Christ as our Redeemer. That's going to be the lens we're going to try and understand the Isaiah chapters for Savory Salt.

So today we're going to dive into 2 Nephi chapter 7, verse 1 as our verse for the day. Verse 1 says this, If you look closely at the way that contract is written, yes, it's through the lens of a marriage and a divorcement, but look at the way that that is phrased. The Lord, once the contract is made, once we engage in covenants with the Lord, the Lord is never the one that breaks the contract.

At the end of the verse there, it says, "Behold, for your iniquities have ye sold yourselves." We are the ones that step away from Jesus Christ. We do that through sin, through transgression, through our own choices, through bitterness and anger sometimes, through challenges in our lives where we feel like the Lord just isn't there for us or whatever it may be. We are the ones pulling away from the Lord.

I love this verse because it helps me remember that no matter what, no matter what circumstances I'm facing in my life, the Lord is there. It's me that needs to continue to take the steps to keep my part of the contract. In those challenging times in my life, I need to step up and say, all right, how much more can I live the commandments?

What can I do better? Who can I serve more? Who can I help out more than I have before?

And when I do that, I'm going to continue to see the Lord in my life. The Spirit's going to stay with me. You see those challenging times in our lives where it's anger or frustration or whatever it is that seems to challenge us, that's not the Lord pulling away from us.

That's us pulling away from the Lord. And I love this verse to help us remember that, look, the Lord wants us to be in contract with Him. He wants us to keep our covenants because when He engages in that covenant with us, He's never the one to break the covenant.

That's all for today, my friends. Remember that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass. Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be savory salt.

I'll be here tomorrow. I hope you are too.
