Show Notes

In this daily scripture reflection, Allen Roberds delves into 2 Nephi 6:1-12, particularly focusing on verse 9 and Jacob's testimony of divine manifestations. He encourages listeners to ask the Lord to manifest guidance, understanding, and help in their own lives, following the pattern set by prophets like Jacob, Nephi, and Lehi.

Key Points

  • Jacob, like Nephi and Lehi, received divine manifestations and spiritual insights into the future, as referenced in 2 Nephi 6:9.
  • The episode highlights a clear pattern in the Book of Mormon: prophets actively sought and received manifestations from the Lord.
  • Allen Roberds shares personal experiences of praying for discernment to help clients, demonstrating how the Lord can manifest guidance in practical, daily situations.
  • Listeners are encouraged to specifically ask the Lord to manifest understanding of scriptures, conference talks, or solutions to personal challenges.

So I want to ask you, what are you asking of the Lord to manifest in your life?

In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.

Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me and know that I am cheering for your every success. Welcome to day 49.

This is seven days times seven weeks. We get to 49. Well done on your reading.

We are moving into 2 Nephi chapter 6 today along our 365-day journey in the Book of Mormon. Today you will be reading 2 Nephi 6 verses 1-12. Kind of a short reading in terms of the verses count, but some good stuff inside of here.

We're going to move into Jacob for a little bit, and he's going to mention that Nephi has asked him to conduct some instruction and some teaching, and so Jacob's going to go back to Isaiah. We're not going to get into Isaiah today yet. Well, Jacob does actually, but we're not as we read our single verse today.

We're instead going to stay right inside of Jacob talking here, and that's going to be on verse 9. He says something really interesting that I think sticks out to me a little bit differently this time as I read through the Book of Mormon, and I want to share it with you. Verse 9 says, "And after he should manifest himself, they should scourge him and crucify him, according to the words of the angel who spake it unto me." Now this is talking about Jesus Christ, right?

And what's going to happen when he manifests himself to the people of Israel. And yet, interestingly enough, the pieces of this that stand out to me are these kind of phrases inside of here: "The Lord has shown unto me," and "he has also shown unto me," and "after he should manifest himself," and "the angel who spake it unto me." You know, we know very clearly through earlier chapters in the Book of Nephi that Nephi was visited. We know that Lehi was visited and that they had dreams with an angel showing them incredible things.

We also get cool insight here that Jacob had these manifestations in his life. That means that Jacob took Nephi's counsel and asked for himself to know the things of the Lord and asked specific things from the Lord. And there's been times where I've prayed specifically for my clients and prayed for discernment to know how best to help my clients.

And on the back end of some of those conversations, my clients have said things like, "Gosh, Allen, I didn't know that that's what I needed help with. And yet that helped me exactly how I needed help." And I love that because I know that there's a correlation between my prayer for discernment and my ability to help them, and the Lord helping me know what they need in order to better accomplish the things in their lives. So I want to ask you, what are you asking of the Lord to manifest in your life?

Perhaps it's a conference talk that you've recently heard, or you want to better understand something inside of the scriptures. Ask the Lord. Jacob did it.

Nephi did it. Lehi did it. There is a pattern being established inside of the Book of Mormon that says, "Hey folks, if you want to—if you want to better understand the things of the Spirit—then to bring to our understanding and our recollection the things of the Lord." Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be savory salt.

I'll be here tomorrow. Hope you are too.
